There will be no Star Trek beyond Star Trek Beyond

The franchise is ruined. They need to reboot it again. This time starring James McAvoy as Jean-Luc Picard.

Yes, maybe a whole new cast, everyone 15 years older, a different era. In the middle of their careers.

I always thought a TV show based around the characters at the age of the TMP-TWOK era would be something I'd really love to watch.

reply

Yeah, and Tom Hardy should be Data.

reply

Yes!

It's not ruined. The actors are perfect. The problem is with the directors and writers. Paramount needs to not be involved in the creative process and hire a director and writers who actually like the original Star Trek concept. No more Fast and Furious in Space.

reply

But even when they got the perfect director and writers, the reputations can not be mended easily. This franchise would forever be known as, as you said, Fast and Furious in Space. Audience will naturally expect more of the same for the next installment, and people who didn't like this won't watch at the cinemas.

The only way out is another reboot, a really different version of Star Trek, with all new cast. Thus movie goers will know that this franchise goes a different direction than the last movie.

reply

Beyond was Fast and Furious in Space. I actually liked the first two movies.

A larger general audience that Paramount wanted never happened. And the fans stayed away so they won't expect or want another Fast and Furious in Space movie. Unfortunately, Paramount wants the same director for Trek 4 so more of the same to come.

Fans may have to give up on the movies and just watch the new TV show when its finally released. I question if that will survive even if it's good since a subscription will be needed.

reply

If Beyond was Fast and Furious in Space, then Into Darkness was Star Trek on Earth :)

Who am I to play studio executive, but if I were heading up Paramount right now, I would put the people who made these shorts in charge of the next Star Trek film:

And yes, Tom Hardy should be Data.

Paramount sued people making fan films. Fan films can't be longer than 30 minutes, no longer have former Star Trek actors, can't have Star Trek in its name, etc.

Full list of rules:

Seriously, George Lucas used to hire fans who created Star Wars related projects. He made an official contest with prizes for those with fan films. Big difference. Any surprise why Star Wars grows in popularity while Star Trek stagnates.

reply

Paramount's rules stipulate the fan film must give credit to Star Trek, and so far I see these movies doing so. They outright declare themselves as fan movies.

I don't know what you're trying to say, but you might as well watch those links to legal Star Trek fan film shorts and let us know your thoughts. Go ahead, don't let me stop you.

reply

I'm saying that Paramount has been hostile to Star Trek fans especially those making fan films. Some of the popular ones were at least an hour and even had former Star Trek actors. Those cannot ever be made again. The fan films have a respect for Roddenbery's vision and I enjoyed watching a few of them. My favorite is Star Trek Phase 2 series which can be found on youtube.

This one stars several former Trek actors.

Mr George Takei is in this fan film:

Maybe Paramount is afraid of the competition.

Here's a damn good one without any of those boosts:

Their recent legal actions have stemmed from the Axanar fan production, which raised enough money on Kickstarter to catch the studio's attention. Paramount is not against fan productions in principle, and they have laid out guidelines for future productions (which, shockingly, dissuade against raising external funds).

Fan films will continue to be made, and with these provisions we stand to see ones with more economical runtimes and ambitious creative approaches that still respect Roddenbery's original vision.

I want a Voyager trilogy. Michelle Monaghan as Janeway.

Michelle Monaghan in: Whatever I Need to Do for Coke Money.

reply

She's cute.

I would like to see TOS rebooted in todays technology.

reply

But these movies we have now were TOS rebooted in todays technology, no?

reply

Yes thats true, guess I forgot to elaborate. I meant all the original episodes from the 60's. The stories were great but the graphics and animation were terrible. We are so spoiled today with exceptional CGI that it would be amazing to see what the episodes would look like if they were made today.

Zachary Quinto: More Star Trek movies not guaranteed!

I guess producers want to reboot this mess without him...

reply

Hopefully, they will not go to J.J.'s "Bad Reboot" again. Because if they do, he will just invent a new "Celsius" timeline and rehash the same shit.

reply

What about Fahrenheit timeline?

reply

As long as they don't burn any books, it should be ok.

reply

Screw them. This version of Star Trek was just good enough to make the fact that the movies sucked considerably more painful. It looked like Star Trek TOS (good uniforms too) only shinier and more contemporary in tech (Although with a lot of bizarrely glaring lights on the bridge and a curiously placed brewery in the secondary hull). The effects were excellent. The key actors were very good in the roles, every one of them... It even had good music - best score adapting a famous TV theme since Danny Elfman did Mission Impossible.
But it was dumb. I mean dumber than a Pakled designed neutrino welder.
Nothing can fix that but somebody could try again.
This time, how about a real re-boot? No alternate timeline mumbo jumbo. Let's just do Star Trek in the spirit of the original series. It might just look like the little views we got of Pike and the Enterprise in Discovery... It would be best as a series but if it wastes each whole season on some section 31 conspiracy and a war like Discovery season 1 or a protracted scavenger hunt like season 2... Well, lets not bother.
