The final drum solo was waaaayyyyy too long.

Drum solos are fine ... for about 15 seconds then they get tiresome and repetitive. Maybe some exceptions for certain asian music, but never with a snare set.

This movie was about Sadism and Masochism each in their own way grasping for the ember of genius.

I can't agree, the whole film was about drumming, the director built the entire movie up to that point, there is so much character and closure visually in those moments. You see the relationship between the two leads change, Andrew having that silent moment before he hits the next level, the shot of his dad watching him.

It also ends at the best moment possible.

Not exactly the same situation, but listen to Dave Brubeck's "Take Five". A glut of the song is just a slow drum and and keyboard playing, but it is completely amazing! The slow descent, the creeping buildup... if you appreciate jazz, you won't complain.

Yeah it was. It was for two people: Andrew and Fletcher. We as the audience knew before the movie even started that Andrew was going to prove himself because we have all seen movies before so that wasn't much of a payoff for us. If that was a real performance the audience would have wondering by about minute 17 how long that ass was going to go on with his self indulgent solo before somebody finally called in a sniper to take him out.

Bucka bucka, Enzo wife yucka.

Stick to pop music. It's obviously all you have the attention span for!

What is your problem? Thinking the point could have been made in less time does not warrant insults.

Don't we feel like the deaf deserve better movies?

The final scene and solo could have gone on and on and on and Id be fine with it. It was spectacular and a wonderful piece of music. Add in the emotion between the 2 main characters....its freaking great.

I loved the solo. The ending was so soo good.

The final drum solo was waaaayyyyy too long.

LOL!!! When you are in the audience and watching someone play with that much intensity and passion, it's electrifying, edge of you seat stuff.

When someone plays their instrument with that level of virtuosity you can't help but be engrossed.

So put some spice in my sauce, honey in my tea, an ace up my sleeve and a slinkyplanb

No problem about solo duration for me too. It took just the time it shoud take.

I guess it referenced a great performance by Buddy Rich https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9esWG6A6g-k (check the 'slowing down' part)

You sir, simply haven't got a clue...

It was too short. Should have been at least an hour longer.
