A maya spinoff - Girl Meets World (2014) Discussion

I'm not sure how they could pull it off.

I mean, it seems that the ending will be the Matthews family moving overseas to the UK or whatever, leaving everyone else behind. If they made a spin-off, with that premise, it would star the same cast minus Riley and her family. Seems rather weird.

I could see Katy finally getting her big break in acting and ends up moving along with Maya and Shawn but not certain if Rider Strong would want to play the role full time again but I could see it working out. The question is how the show would intergrate Farkle and Lucas unless they decide to move to La as well. Maybe the show can address Riley's departure somehow.

Without Riley in the picture, Lucas and Zay can come back on occasion for visits as one alternative or maybe the duo felt it was better to stay together even if Riley is no longer around since quite honestly I found her to be one of the most annoying characters on the show with her stupidity even though Auggie was irritating as well but he is younger so it is excusable. I could see Lucas pursuing a modeling career thus the move and also he reveals that despite his feelings for Riley, it was Maya that he truly wanted all along. I could see Maya trying to find her own path after Riley's departure and struggling without her best friend.

If Rider would only appear in two or three episodes a season I don't see why he would become a full-time cast member on a spin-off.

2017! Time for more Asians on tv and in movies. Get it right DC/WB/Fox!

There is no Maya without Riley, so no. There is no way to have a show without the both of them.

My idea for Maya Goes to LA since she seems more popular than Riley considering many of the episodes were centered on her.

In the spin-off to Girl Meets World, Maya’s mother Katy finds out that one of the roles that she auditioned for has finally landed her the big break in acting that she has always dreamed. Maya worries at first about leaving NY behind figuring that it was her home and scared of starting over especially after Riley’s departure and finds it hard to move forward with her own life. However when they do arrive in LA, Maya finally feels right at home and one of the first people that she encounters is Farkle who tells her that his father Stuart bought the film studio that Katy works for thus why he appears. Maya is also surprised to see Lucas as well who tells her that he landed a modeling gig and reveals that he broke up with Riley after feeling their lives were going in different directions. Zay appears as well and discovers that he has a talent for singing and wants to pursue it as well. Smackle doesn’t’ appear since Farkle reveals that she wanted to stay in NY feeling it was best to find her own path. The foursome end up going to a performing arts school where they attempt to discover their own paths while also trying to maintain their friendships which trying to avoid the obstacles of jealously and competition. Maya’s father Kermit returns wanting to be a better father to his daughter which Shawn refuses fearing it will lead to Maya getting crushed again which leads to a rather hilarious fight between Shawn and Kermit. Katy tells Kermit even though she is thankful that Maya is something that they share but tells him that she is happy with Shawn and loves him.

While I respectfully disagree since I don't see how the show could work with only Maya and Farkle but I could see the other Girl Meets World cast returning as recurring characters Lucas more likely than Zay since he is the lacky. I don't see what other new characters could be brought in.

There will be no Maya spin-off or any GMW spin-off, the show's ratings weren't good anymore. However, Sabrina is probably going to get her own new show.

You can't have a spinoff of BMW without the Matthews.

The show is done. It's possible Maya could get her own show but I doubt it. It would probably make more sense to put her in HSM 4 if they were looking to milk what's left of her.

The writers have boxed themselves into a corner. They have already shown Maya and Riley in 'the future'. And in said future, we are told that the two of them have never lived so far apart as they are about to (on the other side of the same city!).

Plus, since Shawn is now her step-father, Rider would have to be involved. Yet, he's not big on acting these days.

The meaning of Maya in Hinduism is the power through which the world becomes manifest. This doesn't seem coincidental considering the first episode is about Riley's world starting with Maya. Their connection is as strong as Anna and Elsa, the Charmed sisters, Sam & Dean, etc. even though they aren't blood siblings. I can't see it work without both of them.

Sadly sometimes despite having good bonds, some people do drift apart while others stay close. Maya and riley saw one possible future but it could always change.

That certainly can happen but a lot of TV shows and movies have a Tolkien / Lewis friendship model of two people who inspire each other and are as bonded as family. I can understand people loving Sabrina and the character of Maya but I don't think Maya really works without her counterpart, Riley. It's like Sam without Frodo or Frodo without Sam.
