Can somebody explain why this is good?

I remember being pumped to see this movie especially after it received rave reviews.

I went to the theater and nearly fell asleep 30 minutes in. And I love these kinds of sci-fi movies. I just found it sooo boring and stupid/predictable at times. The whole viewing in past tense and the flashforward and flashback moments didn't land with me at all.

I even watched it again on Amazon to see if I was just tired or missed something but no it was the same experience.

Can anybody explain what is so groundbreakingly good about this movie?

Did you finally get to see the whole thing?

Maybe it's just not for you... That's ok... It's not a groundbreaking movie, but it is good.

Oh yeah, I watched all the way to the end and wished I hadn't lol. I just don't understand the hype of how this movie is sooo good. I mean it's okay I'd give it 6/10 but people are raving about as if it was the best sci-fi of the decade. Everybody I talk to in person found it boring at best as well.

Is there anything about it that makes it a 10/10 movie that I'm missing? I just want a perspective that felt it's one of the best movies in the last 10 years.

i thought people trashed it... I guess we just had different feedback, although I do admit that I saw it opening weekend so didn't have any bias going in...

It was a decent space horror movie... I loved it when Van Wilder kept telling everyone to stop calling it Calvin!

Should have listened to him 😉

It has 2 gay aliens with tentacles in it.
Plus one hot chick and one explosion.
There's something for everybody here!

Okay, so nobody can explain what's so great about it?? I think that's clear proof that it's not all that great.

Just to give you some feedback, but no, I for myself have no idea, what caused critics and a majority of viewers to praise the film, the way they did. Decent acting but the film is hampered by a dire script IMO. It’s not that it is slow moving. I can easily appreciate that, when there is some sort of mystery and suspense, that keeps your attraction. But even the twist at the end, when it is implied, that the Aliens (silly octopus design, by the way) somehow manage to shift through time, didn’t work for me. Also, as others have mentioned before, I thought the script was very reminiscent of "Epoch", a much lesser known Sci-Fy B-Movie. Marred by it’s low budget and some pretty bad effects I didn’t find that one as boring as "Arrival".
