The prequels (and episode numbers in the titles) was unnecessary

The so-called "original trilogy" should have been the 'only' trilogy with the first star wars opening crawl left bare without "Episide IV A New Hope" and its two sequels simply The Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi, no "Episode V" or "Episode VI", and not to mention no tinkering to make it so-called "better" and attempting to erase the original sacred classics from existence. Get what I'm saying people?

I always refer to the original movie as just Star Wars. I never heard of the subtitle until the 90s.

1981,
And this time, it was called Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Here's how the very first Star Wars retcon went down. On April 10, 1981, roughly a year after The Empire Strikes Back was released in theaters, 20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm re-released the original film, too.

Can someone tell me WHEN the Episode numbers were first added to the movies in their opening crawls? I'm getting the impression it was LONG before the Special Editions, but I may be wrong.

Thank you. I wonder if Star Wars fans just ignore those Episode numbers, or did before the Special Editions came out? The problem is, you have three movies, the first starting at Episode 4, so people will wonder where the first three are. Or did they? Maybe they eventually wanted a backstory to Anakin's fall, but when the Prequels came out, they changed their minds? Just goes to show that the Star Wars mob is fickle.

i still love how people trash the Prequels even though they were made by the same person that made the OT...the 5 subsequent disney movies were obviously not needed, and the obi-wan movie was cancelled cause the solo movie flopped.

reply

They’re still canon no matter what. :D
