After The Force Awakens:
"Oh my god, they're not even trying. It's literally just a step by step ripoff of A New Hope. Disney's too afraid of taking risks. Why don't they do something new and different?"
After The Last Jedi:
"NO, NOT LIKE THAT!"
I can't wait to see what the reaction to this would be like.
You can take risks and do something different and innovative WITHOUT ignoring/trashing existing lore/characters or plot points set up in the first part of the TRILOGY of which your film is the second part.
TFA was really good , enjoyable, yes its similar to ANH in terms of the template it was made from, but still, it set up some intreasting story arcs, TLJ was just Rian Johnsons artistic vision for a Star Wars movie, it wasnt anything new, it was tedious story line with stupid silly jokes thrown in, im done with this Trilogy and i certainly wont be going any where near Rian Johnsons new trilogy , dont mind the standalones, in fact they have been better than any films thats come afte Return of the Jedi
I was a Star Wars fan and this post reflects my opinion far more accurately than the OP's lofty, accusatory presentation. I only differ in that I think that Solo was not good either.
Officially tired of what they are doing to/with SW. Not planning on seeing any more unless one of the standalones gets the right director/writer team. That might bring me back.
Think its too late for that , not really looking forward to Episode 9, a boba fett movie by Mangold sounded very interesting but alas , Rian Johnson killed off any interest I have in any skywalker saga , cant believe he is still working on a new trilogy after TLJ
TFA = OMFG! What a soul crushingly awful, redundant knock off of ANH that acts as a soft reboot, resetting the state of the universe & rendering hollow all of struggles and victories of the OT. Jar Jar Abrams is a bigger hack than I could have possibly imagined.
TLJ = Yeah that sucked as expected but at least it managed to be less of a slightly repackaged knock off. Nobody could have saved the dumpster fire Jar Jar got started.
