Star Wars fans after The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi

After The Force Awakens:
"Oh my god, they're not even trying. It's literally just a step by step ripoff of A New Hope. Disney's too afraid of taking risks. Why don't they do something new and different?"

After The Last Jedi:
"NO, NOT LIKE THAT!"

I can't wait to see what the reaction to this would be like.

I loved "The Force Awakens". I don't care in the slightest that it repeats some elements from previous films.

For my perfect Star Wars experience:

- I want intriguing characters, which Kylo Ren, Rey, Finn, and Poe were before Rian Johnson got a hold of them.

- I want OT characters to seem like themselves, which Han, Chewie, and Leia were in TFA.

- I want the trilogy to have cohesion. Not one directors sets things up, and the next just completely ignores everything and does what he wants, making decisions based on subverting audience expectations instead of crafting a cool story.

- I want a director/producer that loves the product as much as the fans do. i.e. Kevin Feige/Russo Brothers with the MCU, Ryan Reynolds with Deadpool, ect.

- I want to feel rewarded for being a fan. If you are a fan of the MCU, "Infinity War" was a huge reward. It was epic and satisfying from the opening to the after credits. It made you want MORE right then and there.

"The Last Jedi" is a fun vampire. Sucked all the fun and joy out of both the fans and films. I honestly don't know of anything JJ could do, besides retcon the TLJ, that could save this trilogy.

I really couldn't have said it better. I second every point made here.
