Do you think the end of the 'Skywalker saga' ....

...means that this is the end of the numbered entries? Like Episode IX is the end. There are no Episodes X, XI, or XII. All future movies are spinoffs?

Or will there be numbered entries unrelated to the Skywalkers?

reply

I heard the other star wars projects are put on hold because of EP 8 and Solo.

reply

no, we have rian the hack johnsons ne trilogy to look forward to , yyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

reply

Pretty sure that trilogy will be spin-offs

reply

Yeah. They are supposed to be entirely separate from the rest if the universe and will feature new characters. If they get made.

reply

I presume that's the direction they want to go in, because then they won't have to share any of the credit or merchandising rights with Lucas.

Whether they can pull that off remains to be seen, but I'm willing to let them have a go.

reply

Lucas sold his franchise to Disney. Luca has no rights to financial compensation although he may always be credited as a writer since he created the SW universe (jedi, stormtroopers, etc.)

They'll probably continue the Skywalker legacy in future films. Rey and Kylo kid(s) fighting the evil Empire in perpetuity. I doubt if Disney will show one ounce of creativity to move beyond anything Lucas had done.

reply

I know Lucas sold "the franchise" to Disney, but do you know if he sold the entirety of the merchandising rights? Does he still get a cut of every stormtrooper fog toy ever sold, or not?

I'm actually curious about that.

reply

No. Disney has merchandising and licensing rights, too. Lucas received Disney stock and cash. He makes more money if Disney stock goes up.

reply

Maybe I should buy Disney stock. They own Star Wars, they own Pixar, they own everything!

reply

I believe they'll officially rebrand these films as perhaps, "The Skywalker Saga" Episodes 1-9. Rian Johnson's new film series will have it's own title with it's own episode headings. And so forth with future entries. Maybe one day in the future they'll return to the Skywalker world but I doubt it. I don't think Disney ever wanted Skywalker or the original films.

reply

After watching 7 and 8, I assumed that the skywalker saga ended at ep 6. Unless they find a way to make Rey a skywalker in ep 9.

reply

This is very true. I think it’s 50/50 that Rey turns out to be a part of the family.
