I'm a fan since 1977. Is there ANYONE left who just finds it pure entertainment?

I couldn't care less if it's done well or not. If there's an inconsistency or a glitch in the timeline, or an annoying character, I just don't care. I was 10 when this thing started. All I learned to do was enjoy it and that's all I've done since. People almost make it a religion anymore and there's been little more than hate for the entire franchise since 1999. Loosen up. It's just a movie. You have three choices. One, watch it and enjoy it. Two, not watch it, quit buying tickets for something you hate and do something else with your life, or three, get out there and make a better movie yourself. It's just a movie. And not a realistic one at that.

Jesus, people are eating glass and spitting fire because they don't like one director or another. Get over it.

I feel almost exactly the same. I was 7 when the first one came out-- on my 7th birthday even-- and I enjoy them as fun entertainment. Some are better than others, but ultimately it's just an exciting, entertaining thing. The build-up to the release of a new film is great, and the experience of sitting in a theater watching a new film unfold is like nothing else.

yes the build up (the title revealed, first images, trailers etc) and that first viewing sitting in the theatre and seeing the big yellow STARWARS letters followed by the new Episode title (after being used to seeing IV/V/VI etc for so long) followed by the text and then the pan down to something totally new and unfamiliar is pretty mind blowing

The only one I dislike is the last Jedi, solo, tfa, rogue one I really enjoyed , looking forward to more star wars film's in the near future

You're welcome. And I don't recall saying I don't care if a film is any good. If it's not any good, I just simply don't watch it and then move on with my life. What I meant by what I said is that if a director makes a mistake that impacts the film in a negative or silly or inconsistent way, that doesn't make it a bad movie. It's just entertainment.

And dumb or not, no matter how many mistakes, NO Star Wars film is a bad film.

Now it's fine if you don't care but I find it a very strange argument to try and demand your fellow movie goers be as blase as yourself with regards to quality.

And we're now at a point where abjectly awful Star Wars films *outnumber* the good ones. Thanks - in part - to the attitude of "I couldn't care less if it is well done or not". Well guess what - neither does Disney! So I think it's wonderful you've found each other!

It's like you're surprised you didn't like it when you expected not to like it in the first place.

And you take my words to mean that I think all movie producers should just pump out half assed movies and we shouldn't care. That's a moronic summation. I'm just saying that movies - even the very BEST movies - are going to have flaws. But many people find the flaws and pick the movie apart because of them and disregard anything that might be good about it. Case in point: In The Last Jedi, SPACE VEGAS????? Yes that has to be about the stupidest fucking thing I've ever seen in a movie. But I still liked the movie because it still had entertainment value.

Look at Phantom Menace. It had some good stuff, it had some shitty stuff, But did anyone talk about anything good? No, because they have spent the last 19 years bitching about Jar Jar Binks and the stupid kid in the goggles. People wrote off the entire movie for a few things they didn't like about an otherwise decent movie.

Because you don't know they're bad until you see them - then you see them and you realise they've bad - then you read the reviews which just seem to ignore all the faults - then you go to an internet forum to discuss whether it actually is a bad film or not, to gain different perspectives, to vent, to argue, to discuss - then you find one of the periodic posts that pop up here which go something like "It's just a movie". Well, no shit! It is just a movie and this is just a movie discussion board, so how the hell anyone can have the brass neck to state that people shouldn't discuss movies but apparently it's ok for them to discuss the discussions of movies is beyond me. It essentially boils down to this:

"I don't like what people are saying here and so I just wish they would stop saying it". You're not going to try to engage and find out *why* people have these views, you're not going to try to explain *your* point of view you just want everyone who disagrees with you to instantly change their minds because you say so.

This is the approach of a child.

And then when somebody challenges this childish approach to life you come up with lines like "Have a nice life!" which is only 2 shades less pathetic than "La la la I'm not interesting".

Well I've tell you what Artguylarry - why not set up your own movie forum, where everyone can get together and agree with each other about how they couldn't care less if films are well done or not, and see what wonderful and insightful conversations you can have.

"It was mediocre - I loved it!"
"I too didn't care about many of its flaws!"
"It was the most average film of the year. 5*s out of 5!"

Your approach is the childish one, constantly complaining and whining, attacking everyone you can find who disagrees with you. Even having an antagonistic username that you easily live up to.

I had some fun speaking with you at times, you're not a bad guy, but that last time I responded to your topic where you literally just decided to lie and frame whatever imaginary reality you wanted to hate, it was just too much.

I can't feed someone who obviously just trolls so hard. The good parts of you are honestly not worth dealing with your endless need for negative attention and conflict.

I'm not sure you understand fandom then.

It's not just a movie to a lot of people. It's a world that they are invested in (movies, TV, comics, games, ect.), and it's a community they feel apart of, and it's been that way for years. It's just not that easy to simply walk away.

What makes this situation even harder, is that TLJ is a sequel. If it was just a "one off" stand alone film, with new characters that no one was attached to, I don't think anyone would be bitching this much about it.

Right. It's weird how so many fans don't get why fans are passionate about the thing they all love. Obviously, some fans will like certain entries more than others. That's true of any fandom. What confuses me is when someone says they have been fans of a certain franchise for decades and then can't fathom why people have an interest in the very same franchise.

Yeah, I see a lot of posts and comments (not just here) saying stuff like "I've been a fan since '77, where I saw ANH in the theater, and then I saw Empire 15 times", ect., but then they say something like what the OP author is saying about just walking away and such, and I have to question just how invested they actually are.

Please, by all means, point out anywhere here in this thread, where I said "they are my life." I believe my point was they weren't my life. They were just a source of awesome entertainment for a 10 year old kid. And then I walked out of the theater and did other things, and remembered, the next day, what a cool ass movie I saw the night before.

But you have to admit, there are many people in this world who have adapted themselves into a life consumed by Star Wars. They have moved into mom's basement, where they immerse themselves into the SW universe searching for the reason behind every scratch on the Falcon, and study the consistency of every wrinkle and hair on Yoda's head. They study the languages of the Ewoks, Jawas and Hutts, master every SW video game released, and thoroughly explain how Jar Jar Binks is somehow a Sith Lord. And by "adulthood" if they're REEEEALLY lucky and find someone willing to marry them, it's usually a SW themed wedding, with Ewok ring bearers, and officiated by Darth Vader.

If my life had ever come to ANY of that, I would've hanged myself long ago.

Personally, I've enjoyed ever Star Wars movie but TLJ. Some more than others for sure and I'll admit Attack of the Clones is a bad movie overall but enjoyable on it's release. E1 and Solo are both not great but still better than most movies released in a year.

Yes. Right here. But it's a lot of fun watching people freak out about all the extrinsic shot like whether Yodas ears are the right the, or whether Ren is pregnant, or whether Rose was on her period when she "saved" Finn.

I have been turning off my brain and enjoying Star Wars movies since 1977. I'm so willing to be pleased that I've even learned to enjoy the prequels! (Well, maybe not "The Phanton Menace".) They're such fun, so much awesomeness and spectacle, and if some are better than others they're all fun.

And really, I think that's how most people feel about SW, in spite of a group of vociferous haters who are trying to convince everyone that they hate everything made after 1983. And they call themselves "fans", feh.

I was born in 77, five days before Star Wars premiered... And yes, I do find it pure entertainment. That's exactly what it is. Some people take these things way too seriously.

Pure entertainment isn't guaranteed to entertain everyone.

Lots of people didn't even like Star Wars in 1977!

Last Jedi is pure entertainment as well, it's just overall worse than it is good, to me.
