Of course people have seen him fly 'anything'. His friend, Biggs Darklighter, who also flew in an X-wing flew with him. Controls on the X-wing are also similar to the Skyhopper and are both made by Incom. Nothing to do with this sexism crap or if Rey was black, you'd probably say it was racist.

There is no continuity. Just straight on massacring the old to replace with the new. Like you said, Chewie doesn't get to keep the Falcon and Luke didn't get to see his best friend die at the hands of his own son but hey, Rey gets all of that.
Also, when did Rey become a skilled pilot? Was it ever mentioned in the films or was it some fill in the inbetween novel between the FW and TLJ?
Update: Oh I see, everything before Disney diversity makeover became non-canon except the theatrical films and Clone Wars animated series. Then a so-called canon short novel 'Before the Awakening' says she scavenged some flight sim data chip, then has some practical experience flying a ship that she rebuild in the desert, and finds out that she's pretty good at it. Funny way to discredit previous novels as non-canon then make their own as canon.
It takes skill to fly in the narrow and dangerously rocky Beggar's Canyon while bulls eyeing what is essentially a quick and agile 2 meter long rats. In any case, imo, training in a flight sim is wholeheartedly different than experiencing it in real life scenarios which Luke has more experience in.
