The entire Anakin saga is 100% irrelevant

Everything is way, WAY worse than ever before merely 30 years later. No peace. No justice. No finality. No closure. No anything. It's all wax for scraping.

KK and her ilk will burn in hell for what they've done.

It really is. That is if you respect Di$ney's alternate canon star wars universe, which i don't. TFA laid the disastrous groundwork that rendered the entire OT & ST moot well before TLJ came about. Not to mention taking a huge dump on the Star Wars mythos while they were at it. .

Yeah but what would have been the alternative? An entire new trilogy with everybody sitting on the porch and drinking lemonade?

reply

Given the time differential, they could have started where the Timothy Zahn books left off.

They could have started with the First Order being a Sith rebel group trying to take down the Republic.

They could have respected the OT instead of basically creating an alternative universe Star Wars like J.J. Abrams did with an alternative Star Trek.

reply

Seemed obvious to me to portray the remnants of the Empire, call them First Order if you please, as an Isis fraction, continuing to wage a gorilla terrorist campaign against the re-established Republic. Mirrors our times and writes itself. Leave the nazi correlations in history where they belong and update the series to current dilemmas.

Disney's lust in destroying the saga while at the same time trying to adhere to its formula is suicidal and absurd.

Finn could have been a man who believed in First Order's propaganda campaigns, went off to join them, got treated like crap and figured out what scumbags they are, and escapes. And is now hated by everybody. He's essentially the same character, except he actually reflects current times and creates an opportunity to discuss these problems we're dealing with.

No thought was put into these films at all. Hate on Lucas all you like, he put a lot of damn thought into the prequel saga. You might not like his ideas and his rambling of symmetrical poetry, but at least he believed in it.

reply

Where was I hating on Lucas in my comment?

To be sure, Lucas had many good ideas, but he messed up the prequels. J.J. Abrams has good ideas too, but he is messing up both Star Trek and Star Wars. Rian Johnson could have done a better job than Abrams, but he did worse.

No. I just have rambling general way of expressing myself. I've never been very good at message boarding or keeping points refined to individual replies.

Surely you have enough of an imagination to comprehend something other than a complete retread of OT. You know kind of the way the EU did.

reply

They could have embraced Lucas' ideas instead of throwing them in the trash.

reply

Ummm how about instead of 'hey look the empire is still here but BIGGER ... annnnnd BADDER!!!! Yeah!' they actaully showed the rise of a new empire over the course of time?

That would have made more sense.
