I would have rather Luke looked at the saber and said...I have a bad feeling about this...of course that might have lead to an interesting narrative for Luke to follow...but I'm sure Rain would have found a way to fix that...

shareStrange definition of useless. You got your "Luke, the special boy, saves the day with his long hard light saber" illusion that you've been nursing on for four decades. I knowi...it just isn't the same without the orgasmic rush of violence you've grown accustomed to. No death, no gore, no explosion so no point.
shareWould have been a lot cooler if Luke used the force to dismantle the saber into it's components and scatter them. That would have been a much more Jedi thing to do, and not at all comical.
