Mark Warned Rian

That he fucked up Luke

reply

True story... He actually warned everybody. I mean they did okay with Luke I understand what they were doing with it but still not the best direction they could have taken by any means.

reply

Jack warned him

reply

True, I heard about it too. The 70-year-old Oscar winner was dining at the Wolseley restaurant in London when a photographer told him about Rian's take on Luke's character development.
After saying, "That's awful" Jack added “I warned him" but refused to elaborate.

reply

That meme honestly still makes me laugh.

reply

People need to start listening to Jack! He's always right.

reply

Question remains.
WHOME did Jack warn? Rian or Mark?

reply

Luke was amazing, imo. I thought this movie promoted him from awesome to legendary.

reply

Seriously! If anyone literally shines through the movie, it was Luke. I don't understand the hate. Some say that Luke's character arc was not good. Say what? Like you said - this movie made him from awesome to legendary.

reply

Luke did not literally shine through the movie. No one has.

reply

How did he fuck up Luke?

reply

He made him a hermit/magician/milkman

reply

Luke's exile wasn't Rian's idea. It was actually taken from George Lucas's outlines.

reply

Maybe Lucas planned on Luke milking Jar Jar - that would be fun to watch :D

reply

Maybe. If Lucas wrote the scene, Jar Jar would have farted at the same time when being milked.

reply

I didn't mind the changes they made to Luke. Even tho its pretty obvious that Mark Hamill did have problem with it. But i still feel like that Mark Hamill and Luke got short changed. This is a 2 hour and 30 minute movie. And how long is Luke on Screen, 20 minutes. Luke should have played just a big of a part in this movie as Sir Alec Guinness did in A New Hope. And killing off Luke in this movie was just fucking Stupid. That said Mark Hamill was the best thing about this mess of a film.

reply

Luke was as pointless as the rest of the cast. Nothing moved forward.

reply

Luke died, snoke was killed, the resistance was left almost completely decimated, Yoda burned the Jedi history so that it may start from scratch....that is certainly progress for the 2nd movie of 3.

reply

FYI, Rey took the books from the tree. They're seen in her drawer in the Millennium Falcon for a split second at the end.

reply

I didn't catch that. I wonder if that will come into play? The rest still holds true

reply

The movie started with the Resistance on the run, and ended with the Resistance still on the run.

I suppose that could be seen as "not moving forward," from a certain point of view. It also kind of reminds you of a certain other Star Wars story, doesn't it?

reply

We didn't learn anything new about the characters or their background, they just killed lots of them. :)

reply

I don't mind Luke's isolation. What I do mind is that he didn't show up in flesh to confront Kylo, nor did we get to see him engage in any other combat, or at least fighting some random bad guys. That was very disappointing and made him come across as kind of a coward.
