You would think afer 30 years or so after ROTJ...

The once secret First Order after the Empire collapse would've learnt from the Empires mistakes. Nope. Instead they built even larger ships with hulking cannons and can't even keep pace with a modified calamari cruiser. Heck, the other Star Destroyer just stayed back with Snoke's ship. They also didn't bother building point defense systems against small fighters in that long ass armored hull of a dreadnought. Also, artillery cannons and carpet bombing runs? Since when did space have gravity and start going back to WW2 like era weaponry-style tactics?

Better yet, why didn't Hux just order a couple Star Destroyers to hyper in from the opposite direction, forcing the Mon Calamari cruiser to fight to the death? 2 hours 25 minutes of slow space battle chase is asking for a lot, like Fast & Furious 6's 18 minute aircraft runway.

Also the ships running out of fuel raises questions. Didn't seem to be a problem in other SW movies. At least for capital ships. What is this? Apollo 13?

why didnt they just send out a armada of tie flighters to blow it up , heck even Kylo did some damage

Apparently they were ordered to pull back because the fighters weren't under the cover protection sphere of the Star Destroyers and/or Snoke's dreadnought. The funny thing is the Star Destroyers never fired a shot (from what I could remember) or gave chase, only Snoke's dreadnought artillery fire. They also vastly outnumbered the small fleeing resistance fleet like 10 to 1. I guess the First Order never had Interdictor class type cruisers as well which again points out the new order learning nothing of the past mistakes/gains against the Rebels.

Heck, X-Wings still have deflector shields and a repair droid while Tie Fighters get 1 hit killed. All Rebel ships have shielding while only a few from the Empire had them (I think it started with Tie Advanced, Tie Defender, custom Tie's, Assault Gunboats and a few others).

Here's an odd thing: The big ship was apparently out of range of the guns of the Destroyers, meaning the shots they fired were dissipating as they traveled, I suppose. I mean, they're still getting hit, but I guess the shots just didn't have the power they have at a closer range, like a shotgun.

Yet when the transports leave Holdo's ship, they are EASILY picked off one by one, with single shots, even though they're supposedly still out of range. That entire "range" concept was a little iffy.

And yeah, again, two Destroyers could have simply jumped ahead of the Resistance group and surrounded them.

Apparently the bombing run was done with bombs that have some sort of propellant. Wasn't explained in the movie but from what I hear maybe in a book tie in our something. But from what we saw in the movie, it didn't make sense.

Yeah, I was hoping for a decent fleet of Y-Wings/B-Wings to come swooping in firing ion cannons and torpedoes but instead we got a classic B-52 cluster bomb type run where all of them blew up except the last one to deliver a single cluster payload that just happened to chain react the death of a dreadnaught...
