So...Rey is a nobody?
Was Kylo lying or is she really a nobody that somehow acquired the Force?

"I don’t think he’s lying in that moment — I think he is like telling what he saw and I think that Rey seems like she believes it in that moment. So for me, I wrote it as an honest revelation and as an honest kind of reaction to it, as opposed to a move in a game of chess.
"Now as we know in these movies, you know the whole idea of a certain point of view comes into play and as you know I’m not involved in writing the next movie. JJ [Abrams] and Chris [Terrio] are writing it so, I want to make it clear I’m not sure how it’s going to get resolved. For me the important part was saying it was an emotionally honest revelation, I feel like it, I don’t know, I believed it."
My god they truly have no direction for the trilogy do they?
shareWasn't Anakin a nobody as well until Qui-Gon discovered his midichlorian count? Also, what is everyone referring to when they reference 'mary sue'?
shareMary Sue:
A character may be judged Mary Sue if she is competent in too many areas wrg, is physically attractive, and/or is viewed as admirable by other sympathetic characters.
A Mary Sue is an idealized and seemingly perfect fictional character. Often, this character is recognized as an author insert or wish fulfillment.
Too perfect and can do things on her own without anyone else's help.
Nice, thanks. :)
shareAnakin may not have been a nobody. It appears that Lucas was hinting that Anakin's birth was unusual and even Shmi said she didn't know how he was conceived. Maybe a Darth Plagueis' scientific experiment?
Jedi can be born with the Force strong in them like Yoda, but at least they have training. It makes no sense that Rey has no training but can beat Ren. Sloppy writing.
Well in TFW, Kylo fought like he didn't know how to wield a saber properly or just know basic swordplay with the saber (when compared to other Jedi characters) so to me it seemed like she was fighting a nub that just had some force powers taught to him by Snoke. I haven't seen TLJ yet (tomorrow) so I dunno how much he has improved in his saber arts since then.
shareIn TFA, Ren was severely injured by Chewie's bowcaster bolt, as seen by the blood spots on the snow and him repeatedly thumping his side (presumably to cause pain that he could then draw on the energy of). He couldn't fight at his normal capacity.
Also, he's using a home-made saber that he hasn't constructed properly, hence the "dirty" look and sound of the blade's energy. This probably has consequences in terms of how easy it is to wield, given that the blade is basically a stream of focused plasma in a containment field, so it has mass, is subject to air resistance, probably has a bit of recoil when it hits something due to the uneven energy, etc... Rey, by contrast, is using probably the most finely crafted lightsaber ever created. Why do you think Ren wants it? His makeshift saber is like a baseball bat against a katana.
Hmm must've forgotten that part. Thx for the info filler. I guess I can view him in a better light. Also, how can Ren's saber be the 'most finely crafted lightsaber ever created' when you mention that it wasn't 'constructed properly' and that it's 'like a baseball bat vs. a katana'?
shareRead it again. I said REY’S saber (Anakin’s and Luke’s) is the one of the best sabers ever made. 😊 The similarity of Rey to Ren is confusing!
shareshe has to be a
Skywalker (looking less likely and too predictable),
Obi Wan's Kenobi's grand-daughter
or my choice Emporer Palpatine or another Sith Lord's daughter/creation.
Stolen/sold by scavengers who left her on Jakku.
Kenobi lied to Luke about his family. Kylo probably let Rey believe her fear and lied to her to get her to let go of the past.
shareIf she is a nobody, then what's the point of this TFA trailer and the passing of the torch (lightsaber) forward...

The problem is that this entire trilogy is pointless if she’s nobody, not to mention boring. One of the reasons that a lot of the EU is good is because it connects to OT material in some way, then expands upon it, adding depth.
Rey being nobody would be fine - if she was the main character in a spin-off story. Then, introducing a new family with similar natural power to Skywalkers would be consistent and make sense. But this is Episodes 7, 8 and 9 we’re talking about, which means it must be about Skywalkers or at least must have characters that are fundamentally connected to Skywalkers in some way.
They are correctly undoing of George lucases royal blood line ("You have to be born with a high midoclorian cound") garbage,
Yes any one can develope the force now, having a parent with the force helps but not needed anymore.
If that is true then what and who is this new Trilogy about?
share its any ones guess now. It looks like the movies are being written on the fly rather then having a prewritten story arc. Like he 2nd writer didn't like what the first writer had established and like retconned it.
"its any ones guess now."
Good answer lol You think they would have storyboarded this a long time ago. Thats what I have would done anyways.
At least have a general outline. Seems to me studios are starting to launch trilogies without having a general story arc in mind. Alien Covenant being the other make it up as you go story arc. :/
