Hmmm...43% Critics vs 88% Audience

I didn't really like the first one, though I though this one looked promising. Definitely a huge discrepancy with Critics & Audience.

Trying to decide if this is worth a ticket. What did you all think?

The audience rating on RT is nothing to take seriously.

reply

Please expand in that thought.

reply

The audience score is biased because it only reflects the score of people who paid to see the movie this early. Naturally, those would be hardcore fans of the series or Adam Sandler fanboys.

reply

I didn't like the first one either but I actually enjoyed the sequel, for what it's worth. I'd say it's an improvement.

reply

Me too. This one had more laughters but a weak end.

reply

Proof that audience scores mean nothing.

reply

Or it could reflect that critics are out of touch.

reply

I find that to be the case more often than not, especially when it comes to comedy. Tommy Boy is a classic example of out of touch critics.

This is just a Tribute.

reply

a critic is not trying to have the same opinion as the audience. why would critic score and audience score be the same?

reply

I'm saying that sometimes it seems like the critic's standards are rather high while audiences simply want to be entertained.

Maybe critics are obsolete

I think you're on to something. Critics can't be entertained, they take their own preconceived notions about what makes a movie great and if it isn't Oscar bait it gets trashed. I, however CAN just shut down after a long days work and allow myself to be entertained by the ridiculous. Conclusion: critics suck.

Pun intended.

You people and your slight differences disgust me.

reply

Well that's the case.
Obvious actually and nothing wrong with it.
I also don't care about the value a movie has, all I care about is that it entertains me.
The sequel is a bit better (funnier) but if you didn't like the first one at all, then this would be boring too.

While I rated both 7 here... the first would be more a 6.8 to me and the second a 7.5 (8 if the ending was more to my liking, but it wasn't).

Worth. It's funny, easily accessible. They did pretty well with Mavis and Drac character, family friendly stuff.

It's not gonna turn into Grown Ups since it's Adam Sandlers' crews. Humor is lighter, it hits more than it misses.

The critics hated these movie before they were even released in theaters... because Adam Sandler did the main voice and contributed to this story I guess? They never even gave the movies a chance. Because they saw Sandler's name was attached, they blew it off.

reply

I think this is why I didn't like the first one originally. I saw Adam Sandler attached and rolled my eyes.

I saw the trailer for HT2 and thought "Gee, this looks good", and for what it is, it's good. It caused me to rethink my thoughts on HT, and when I watched it again, I thought "Why did I have a problem with this?". Honestly, my only issue now with it is that the Quasimodo trying to kill Johhny isn't necessary. But they're both good kids' movies.

reply

I think in general critics are overly hard on Sandler.

If a film of his is getting 50-60% on RT, it's usually actually quite good.

If it's 30-40%, it's probably not bad.

If it's below 30%, then yeah, it probably sucks.

It's honestly one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life.

Then you have not seen enough movies.
