was it the emperor who awakened finn from being a storm trooper

because finn was the one who found his grand daughter on jakuu and brought her into the mix. was this Palaptines doing?

reply

That would have been a good idea and actually gave Finn a purpose in the plot, but whoever was writing these movies were not so clever.

reply

Uhh?? yeah sure! Why not lol.
I really don’t think they had Palpatine in mind at all when they made this movie.

reply

Lol no way Disney thought that far ahead, also that actually sounds interesting so that rules out that it was Disney’s intention

No. He just didn't like being a storm trooper, which was entirely to his credit. IMHO that's why he was put into sanitation, in spite of a lifetime of brainwashing, he just didn't score high enough on the ruthlessness tests.

And the writers of "TFA" had no clue that Palpatine was ever going to be involved.

Which makes one wonder why they had a janitor go to the surface of a planet and execute an entire camp full of unarmed civilians. You'd think someone would've said, "Hey, isn't that the janitor who isn't ruthless enough? He'll probably freak out and not kill anyone, then join the Rebels. Maybe we should keep him on the ship. We already have like a dozen guys and Kylo Ren so it's not like we can't handle the situation. If nothing else, we can take any number of the other millions of Stormtroopers we have available."

reply

It would be just like Darth Emo to swan through the First Order base and bark "I'm going to catch a traitor and a Rebel, I need a strike force. I'll take you, you, and those guys over there..." instead of the designated strike force that was elsewhere on the base.

He wasn't the sharpest light saber in the Knights of Ren.

Edit: And no, it isn't unheard of for foot soldiers to be assigned to "sanitation" duty and to be assigned to see to infrastructure. I understand there's less of that in the modern volunteer armies, but even now, when a temporary military base is set up, someone's got to set up plumbing and a power grid, and if it's a secret base, that isn't going to be local civilians.
