What other musical artists should get a good biopic?

In the last ten years, we have seen Ray Charles and Johnny Cash get excellent biopics released, and James Brown and Gregg Allman will soon get theirs. Off the top of my head, I would love to see a big screen treatment of Hank Williams and Elvis Presley. Hank got something at least with that Henry Thomas movie, but it only portrayed the last few days of Hank's life. Elvis has had several TV treatments, with such talented actors as Kurt Russell and Jonathon Rhys-Meyers, but hasn't received a big screen biopic. Supposedly, Mick Jagger is trying to get something off the ground. I would also love to see Otis Redding get a movie, perhaps with Chiwetel Ejiofor.

What artists would you like to see?

Hank Williams would be a remake. His bio was done in 1964 with George Hamilton playing Hank Williams. It was called "Your Cheatin' Heart".

Celene Dion- How has her story not been told? She's a walking soap opera. The youngest of 14. René Angélil became her manager when she was only 12 yrs old. They began an intimate relationship when she was 19 and he 45 and eventually married after he left his wife and kids. Their kids were born with the help of in-vitro fertilization.

Celine did have a biopic, it was a made for TV biopic. It was alright, it went intoal the detais of her marrying the much older man and struggling with low sellf esteem.

Jackie Wilson

Tammi Terrell
Mario Lanza
Laura Nyro
"Mama Cass" Elliot
Courtney Love
Roky Erickson

All people with fascinating and tragic life stories that would lend themselves really well to a good biopic treatment.

They've been trying to get a Janis Joplin biopic made for a while. Ten years ago Juliet Lewis was ready! Maybe now a bit too old. I heard Pink was interested for awhile, as well.

I'd love to see a Marvin Gaye biopic.

I graduated from the college of the streets, I gotta Phd in how to make ends meet.

Connie Francis. I remember reading a small article about her life being like a Soap Opera. Her bio has been in development hell for years.

New Edition.

Clark's destiny = Superman, LL & LL.

Sam Cook
Tammi Terrell I wonder if she is in the James Brown Biop. She started out with him. And he treated he badly. Very interesting life, but I don't think many people will remember her.
Marvin Gaye
Bing Crosby Lots of drama
Pearl Baily And have Queen Latifah play her. If there was ever a double.

Bing Crosby Lots of drama

I read the family bio one of his sons (Gary, I think)from his first marriage wrote. If it was true he made Joan "no wire hangers" Crawford come off like Mary Poppins! Damn!
Pearl Baily And have Queen Latifah play her. If there was ever a double.

I never noticed before but Queen Latifah does indeed look like Pearl Bailey. She definitely had a life worth telling on the big screen!

Bing I understand wasn't such a good dad with his first family. I think even in his will the kids could not get anything until they were 50. they all had depression and problems with alcohol. Two committed suicide. It wasn't just Bing but they believe the mother Dixie was a alcoholic all. A very sad story.
Bailey was a big humanitarian and that alone is worth a movie.

No not 50. They would have loved that! His sons had to wait until they were 65 to inherit his money! He said no one gave him anything and that he'd see to it that they had to work for their money! Funny he changed his mind when he married for a 2nd time a woman 20 yrs younger and had 3 kids. They inherited megaBingbucks at their father's death in 1977. They boys (Harry & Nathaniel)were 19 & 16 and his only daughter (Mary) was 18. Of the 4 oldest sons Gary (who was the same age as his 2nd wife) died at age 62. Philip died at age 70.Dennis died at age 57.Lindsay died at age 51.Both Dennis and Lindsay committed suicide. Philip & Dennis were twins. All of the older sons were struggling later in their lives to make ends meet and deal with various issues like drug & alcohol abuse.

from Bing Croby's IMDB page's trivia section

"Left a clause in his will stating that his sons could not collect their inheritance money until they were 65. They had already been amply taken care of by a trust fund set up by their mother, Dixie Lee, which is truth was totally funded by Bing. All four sons continued to collect monies from that fund until their deaths."

Something clearly was going on in that family. I am not too fast to dismiss Gary, the only one I remember, claims. In any case a movie about Bing would be interesting. His second family I remember clearly. He had those Christmas shows every year. I wonder how they are doing now. I did not even know that was is second family until I heard him mention Dixie somewhere. My father was a big fan of Bings. And the Only thing I remember Katherine is was Anatomy of a A Murder. She always wore that funny hairstyle. lol

I also remember Denise Crosby who was on 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' (1987) as Lieutenant Tasha Yar, during its first season. Back then she made the infotainment shows for a minute because when she was growing up Dennis Crosby denied her emotional & financial support as a father and Bing didn't acknowledge her as his granddaughter.

I just saw her in a movie. Sounds like the family was full nutcases. Why would he deny his own grand child. What a monster.

I've heard her bio and its obvious Tammi Terrell was often attracted to the wrong men. She used to get beaten by James Brown and David Ruffen (The Temptations).

She was so much younger then these guys.. I am sure they took advantage of her. Such a sort life. And a horrible death. I get upset thinking about her. I am old enough to remember seeing her and hearing about her ordeal. Not until I got older did I realize how young she was. Horrible.

Sam Cook(e) definitely an interesting life and one of the first black artists to own his publishing and really get paid. Unfortunately, he helped to unleash Alan Klein on the music world.

Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards from Chic would be another good story. They were super influential musicians and producers in the '70s and '80s (Madonna, David Bowie, Duran, etc) and should have been inducted into the R n R Hall of fame ages ago.

Luther Vandross: high drama. 'nuff said.

Hammer of the Gods - Led Zep

I lived on Long Island and there was this music venue called Westbury Music Hall. Well Connie Francis had a show there went back to her hotel and was raped. It was all in the news. every time I went past that old Howard Johnson, which something else now and the Music that is all I remember. It was a horrible tragedy. But she has always been out about the rape. A very brave person.

Waiting for someone to make a movie about the Ronettes! The story of Ronnie Bennett, her sister, Estelle and their cousin, Nedra would make one hell of a movie! Three beautiful bi-racial girls from Harlem become overnight stars after being signed by Spector, only to see the group destroyed due to his obsessive jealousy over Ronnie. During their five year marriage Ronnie is held a virtual prisoner in his dark "castle", only able to escape by running out in her bare feet one day. Cousin Nedra moves on to marry a New York DJ, giving up the fame to become a born again Christian and raise a family. Meanwhile, Ronnie's sister, Estelle, unable to make a solo career, sinks into a world of mental illness, and is even homeless at times. In her heyday, sensitive, quiet Estelle, who was known as "the prettiest Ronette", was sought after by some of the biggest stars of their time and dated George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Johnny Mathis, and George Hamilton, to name a few. Ripped off shamelessly by Spector since 1963, the Ronettes take their royalty case to the Supreme Court, claiming they were only paid $12,000 for all their hit records and the millions Spector made off them for years. Though eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, due to Phil's grudge and influence in the music world, they are denied entrance every year until 2007, when he is in prison serving his murder sentence.

Michael Jackson hands down! I know they already did a biopic on him but that was twenty years ago. Oh, and they had that horrific biopic with Flex Alexander (who looks nothing like him). And definetly a biopic about Diana Ross or the Supremes.
