The Marked Ones was better than this

Anyone agree?

It's funny how years ago I thought TMO was the worst of the franchise, not believing it to be related to the series in anyway, but after re-watching it upon realizing that this one really was the 'worst' of the franchise and strongly dismissing it as apart of canon, The Marked Ones was really so much better... it was believable, inserted new creative ideas and gags, took place in a different part of the world yet still felt like it took place in the Paranormal Activity Universe.

What a cruel irony that fell upon me, no?

I don't know why they were promoting it like it wasn't a sequel. It WAS a sequel. It had a lot of connections to the other films. It was just set in a different area of California. It was showing that the witches coven worked all over the place. I thought it was pine of the better PA films.

reply

And not to mention California was where Paranormal Activity 3 took place, I was actually confused because of how it was labelled a Latino spin-off which made it sound as if the area was set in a location populated by latinos and mexicans, as in Mexico, yet the main characters discover the connections of Jessie's mother and Anna to Grandma Lois, then they actually go to Lois's house at the end which I could never understand, but I went back and saw that the time-signature at the start says 'Oxnard CA' meaning that it was in fact the same location of PA3 but in a different area as you said, and most likely filled with many Covens that link directly to the Midwives Coven that made the deal with Toby.

Yeah, it really was a sequel, rather than a spin-off or 'cousin' to the series, I mean we saw Ali Rey after 2006 who is probably on the hunt for Hunter (pun not intended) and has become more knowledgeable of Toby's Coven and what Toby requires the first born males for, giving this knowledge to Marisol and Hector to help Jessie from losing to the Demon, and the Demon that took over Jessie was Toby, right? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the Demon that took Jessie write 'MEUS' on his bedroom wall?

And the filming style and editing was so much like the previous films, the CGI was actually even better, those black eyes and the 'bugs' crawling within Oscar's skin as he shows the bite mark to Jessie? Chills... and we even got a more closer glimpse of Toby, remember that scene in the basement where Jessie is looking for his dog but is caught off guard by Katie and Kristi who tell him 'He's Ready For You' which they are probably hinting that the 'He' is Toby, then he sees a horned dark figure in the distance and it precedes to attack him, which I guess we can assume that it was Toby?

Yeah, TMO was the last drop of PA's brilliance, but it was only 2015, I firmly believe that if it had the original writers, Katie Featherston, it could of been so good.

To be honest, I actually hope they reboot this mess and team up with Blum-house again to give us the finale we waited for.

I actually agree with that I believe Blum House could make it far more intense and disturbing then it has been .

reply

While I loved Marked Ones especially that creepy Simon game part I respectfully disagree.

I love all the PAs so I'm pretty biased lol

If I may ask though what did you find that was unappealing in this entry ?

You're entitled to that opinion .

reply

Well, I've listed my problems in other threads,

but let's just say this was not a Paranormal Activity movie.

reply

But it was. Are you in another timeline?

reply

I know. It's like they didn't even try.

TMO managed to go to the level of time-travel and gritty 'possession' themes, AND still keep the main feel of a Paranormal Activity movie.

And I have to say, the CGI was incredible, the detail of the 'bug' crawling inside Hector's skin and his black eyes, and possessed Jessie ...Sent chills down my spine... And we also saw a glimpse of Toby's appearance when Jessie was stuck in the basement of Anna's apartment and that 'black' figure chased him, you could tell that Paranormal Activity had evolved since the first 4, Blumhouse did so many things for the franchise, why didn't they label it a continuation instead of a spin-off?

reply

The Marked One remain the worst of the franchise.

reply

In your unpopular opinion. We're all entitled to them. 🙎

reply

Not according to professional critics. On Rotten Tomatoes this movie has 13% while The Marked Ones sits at 38%. Your opinion does not line up with the consensus of industry professionals.

I dont do like most people, who prefer to listen to professional critics instead of building their own opinion.

reply

Your opinion is great if all that matters is whether you enjoyed a movie or not. But when discussing objective quality, your enjoyment is irrelevant. Which is what you're doing when you say something is "the worst".

reply

Actually, when i say The Marked One is the worst, its because i enjoyed it a lot less than The Ghost Dimension...

reply

But saying "The Marked Ones is the worst" isn't a matter of opinion or a statement of your enjoyment. Saying something is "the worst" means you're making an objective comparison, but in this case, your objective statement is actually a subjective opinion. You've just decided to hide your opinion behind a veil of objectivity.

You can believe The Marked Ones is your least favorite, but objectively it is not the worst in the franchise.

I gotta say, this is a good way of phrasing it.

Thanks. I try to choose my words carefully. :P

You're not citing critics as the final word on the worth of a film are you? Cause that's imbecilic.

reply

I agree. However, it wasn't very good either. So by saying The Marked Ones was better is a major condemnation of this movie.

What could have made this film better, in your opinion? For me the series went on at least one film too long. One through three were good but four added nothing. I liked the Marked Ones but it should have been a stand alone movie and not connected to the series. The 4th film should have wrapped it up in a nice little package, like they said this entry would but didn't.

The story could have made sense, for one. For another, they could stop continuing the story from previous movies if they aren't going to bother to make the connections logical.

I don't HATE these movies. I'm more indifferent to them. The first two I enjoyed but from there it got too gimmicky for me. Too much switching between cameras unnecessarily. Too much excess footage with nothing happening. Just show us the relevant clips. Not every minute of every night on fast forward.

I feel like they missed huge opportunities to tell other stories in this same universe. Instead they just tell one, really disjointed story about Toby getting a human body. We get it, demons exist. But I would have been interested to see what other kinds of supernatural phenomena goes on in this universe.

I don't agree. The Marked Ones was the worst of them all. The Ghost Dimension was more like the first 4.

reply

I COMPLETELY agree. This movie was such a disappointment.
