It's whatever it needs to be to advance the scene/plot.

From what I can see it's far superior to a lightsaber. It can cause shockwaves somehow (that of course only affect the bad guys) as well as instantaneously slicing through tree trunks.

It's reminded me of Aloy's lance. She actually does the same ground-slamming move.
