How on earth was Brian not charged with any crimes?

Obviously, he was not guilty of murder, but he committed MANY crimes in the course of trying to clear his name, including multiple assaults on both police officers and civilians, evading arrest, carjacking, kidnapping, obstruction of justice, grand theft, destruction of property, reckless driving, and whatever else I am leaving out. There was no explanation given as to why he was not charged--just a joke about how he could have been arrested for illegally downloading police files. Are we expected to believe that he would be allowed to walk away a free man after all of that, just because they felt bad about accusing him of murder? It really makes no sense.

Deeeeeplomatic immunity! ...............it's just been revoked.

The trouble with most of these movies is they draw out the ending to tidy up all the loose ends. Compare it to say Charles Bronson's "Ten To Midnight" which ends with Bronson murdering the bad guy with plenty of witnesses, including other cops present. The viewer is left to ponder what will happen to Bronson in the aftermath. The only disadvantage with that type of ending is that if you wish to maintain the credibility you can't have a sequel.
