Problem with the Russian villain Malankov

The main Russian villain Malankov is depicted as having been ex-Spetznaz and served in Russia's invasion of Afghanastan. Problem is the actor doesn't look any older than say 45, and Russia pulled out of Afghanastan in 1988, meaning he couldn't have been any older than say 18-20 and highly unlikely he'd have risen to Spetznaz. Also in the flashbacks he looks the same age!!

Don't like to nit-pick but this is just lazy screenwriting & direction...

I thought it was funny when Stuart gave Mills' team the background of Malankov. He said Malankov was a member of Spetznaz and then added "it's just like our navy SEALs", as if Mills and his buddies had no idea what Spetznaz was.
