The reason for the re-casting of the Stuart character

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this before. It was not because of 'scheduling' conflicts for the original actor, Xander Berkely. It was probably for the simple reason that the producers figured that Xander at nearly 60 was too old to play the action sequences that were required by the actor. So they got someone younger like Dougray Scott to play it. I hate when producers do this in sequels, but here it does kind of make sense.

Berkley was likely still suffering from severe nausea after reading the script.

Very funny! Good job.

It was confusing at first to determine a new man or same man with a different actor.

I would have liked Berkley to return. He's played a good a hole in the past, wouldn't be difficult for him to be the bad guy here.

reply

Exactly, that could have made it better! His inner conflict and descent into evil as the movie progressed and he dug himself in deeper and deeper.

What we got here is... failure to communicate!

Very confusing. Wasn't the original Stuart balding?.... At least get an actor that has similar looks.

... End of line.

Whoever watched 'Nikita' knows that Xander can be a serious badass intimidating villain

Excuse me?

They were agreeing with you. "This" basically means the above post is exactly what I think as well.

^^THIS^^ :-)

Dougaray seems more shifty and duplicitous. The other dude seemed too "nice"

I didn't even remember who the original Stuart was; I just knew it wasn't this guy. Stupid movie with a stupid plot. They should have had the Albanians involved for revenge. However I'm pretty sure we will see a Taken 4. It will be like all the Rocky Movies.

I actually forgot Berkeley was in the original, and so it wasn't a big deal when Scott took over the role. I don't think it really matters because I realized Stuart was behind everything when he came over to Bryan's apartment and asked him to "stay away from my wife." I don't know if it's just because the actor is creepy or if he is really good at playing creepy, but I didn't believe him for a second when he was crying after seeing Lenore's body...it was all just very weird, which is why I knew he was behind it.

Is his involvement even considered a twist? He was an obvious first suspect. His seeing his wife's scarf in Brian's apartment easily provided the envy motive.

The recast was badly done. Xander was more believable as the second husband/stepfather. Doughray was more obvious as a slimeball.

It's that man again!!

From what I remember he was suppose to come back for Taken 2 but declined to reprise his role hence why there was that thrown in part where the character got mad and drove off without being seen. I am assumung the same was for Taken 3.
