If you liked…

…His Dark Materials, A Discovery of Witches, The Nevers, etc you might like this. I found all those shows to be boring as sin and this one is no different. It suffers from that Netflix-anchor where a lack of refinement keeps it from elevating itself behind the same tired sci-fi fantasy tropes. I feel like I’ve seen this show elsewhere 100x already.

If you are looking for GoT quality then holy hell - not even close. Strangely enough, the only show I’ve seen that approaches GoT quality is Yellowstone (yes, the cowboy show - try it - you might be surprised).

I thought this was more interesting than His Dark Materials. A Discovery of Witches I actually couldn't watch at all.

Jury is still out on The Nevers - it's only been three episodes. I do have to say though that thus far the show has already had some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen or heard.

If I found any problems with Shadow and Bone, it's that the world is too complex, and with some of the events there wasn't enough development or exposition. In my opinion the series could have benefited from a couple more episodes.

You are saying The Nevers has the most beautiful things or S&B?

reply

The Nevers.

I kinda enjoyed the last episode of S&B a bit more than the others.

As a whole i think his dark materials is better but this S&B last episode was better than any HDM episode.

All in one ... you are comparing fantasy shows made for kids/teens with a fantasy show made for adults.

And you mean His Dark Materials is made for adults?

Once again, where is that delineation?

reply

No, I mean GoT is made for adults ...

He was comparing S&B, HDM, Nevers with GoT.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_and_Bone

"Shadow and Bone is a young adult fantasy adventure".

Haven't read the books but to me the show it's more teen fantasy than young adult (maybe because I'm old, haha) ... I wonder what's the rating on netflix ...

HDM (the book) is written for 14y olds. (and up). Lol, or lower: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2011/oct/23/recommended-reads-children-11-13
