what drug do they do?

whats the drug Ben, Diondra and Trey sniff in the field before they axe some cows?

reply

I forget the name of it, but I too was interested and looked it up. It wasn't a real drug.

reply

I'm guessing meth. When snorted meth hits you like a freight train and burns like hell for thirty seconds or so. Because of the characters reaction to what they snorted it seemed like meth.

That's the ugliest thing I ever saw.

reply

yea i was thinking meth as well, need to try some

reply

I could have sworn I heard them say the drug was "Rush" (aka poppers).

reply

whatever it was enabled them to be coherent enough to recommend it to the only idiot who hadn't taken it.

Favouries films so far this year:
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) - 9/10
Birdman (2014) - 9/10

reply

They called it "Devil's Rush" same as in the book. Probably made up for the story to go along with the devil worshipping theme. There is a chinese herb with a name that translates as devil's rush also known as medulla junci, but it is not a controlled substance.

PCP. It can be snorted and causes meth-like energy, PLUS hallucinations and aggression. Diondra says she's "hearing voices in her head" when she follows Ben into his house, and he says it's just a side effect of the drug. She was a screwed up chick, but the PCP may have played into her murdering the sister (not that it excuses her behavior).

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

reply

Trey called it Devil's Rush. Not a real "Drug" that I have ever heard of. The way it hit them so fast I would say they did some pretty strong Meth. The purer the crystal the stronger the high. It's like "Super Speed" In real life people are dying from it. There is a huge market in the club scene and gay bar scene. It also is attributed to a lot of HIV infections because it makes the person feel like they can do anything so the users do a lot of anonymous hooking up without protection. Nasty Nasty stuff.

reply

PCP seems most likely because is was the '80s. Was meth a thing back then? It also makes you hallucinate.

reply

I know exactly what it was! It was called "Rush". In the late 80s I lived in Minn and you could buy it up there in liquor stores. It was legal and came in liquid form in small little bottles. Sniff the fumes and get a major "rush". Stupidly my friends and I would do it from time to time. I doubt it's even around anymore.
It does not cause hallucinations. I think Diondra was exaggerating and/or making things up to play on Ben - to manipulate him into doing what she wanted.

Rush is definitely still around now. At least it is in NYC. I had to hide bottles of it from my neighbor/gaybor/BFF on a few occasions, most recently being a year or so ago.

In a drunken, late night haze, he would buy a bottle or two of Rush at the corner bodega, thinking that it was THE MOST BRILLIANT IDEA HE EVER HAD. But I never really won those battles. He would just run out and buy another when I wouldn't give the secret location up. And then the next morning I would always get that regretful text, saying "WHY'D YOU LET ME DO POPPERS LAST NIGHT?!"

Ah, what fond memories. Thank Xenu that I moved out of NY. Even if I do miss the crazy.
