Question about the leaked footage

I recently rewatched it. It’s a great show to binge-watch.

The leaked footage of Chandra and Naz should have led to a mistrial, but the judge chose a different path and ordered Stone to take over.

I’ve always wondered, who requested that the footage from Freddie be delivered to Stone’s doorstep? It couldn’t have been Box, as we learn in the scene where Stone confronts him that he was unaware of the footage.

Could it have been Prosecutor Helen Weiss? But then, how would she know Freddie, and why would she want a mistrial?

I'd have to rewatch as it's been a while. But I'm thinking maybe it was a scheme Naz and Freddie cooked up to try and sabotage the trial.

I don't know of anyone but Freddie who has the connections needed with staff at Rikers to get that footage stolen and leaked.

reply

Not sure about Naz and Freddie, they don't seem like they'd know how to do that.

If that footage was leaked, why not the one with her pulling drugs out of her snatch. The first one would disbar her. The 2nd one would probably put her in jail. Whoever leaked it perhaps didn't want that to happen? Or did the writers overlook something.

There are two reasons. First, the drug smuggling footage would have been used by the prosecution in the retrial as further evidence of Naz's bad character, and would likely have also resulted in additional charges of drug smuggling. Second, the footage was sent by Freddy, who did not want to expose his own drug smuggling operation.

Thanks.

I think Freddy sent it himself because he really wanted to help Naz.

A guard probably reviewed the security footage as a routine part of their job. Knowing that Naz was Freddy's boy, they told him. When Freddy somehow heard how badly Chandra's decision to put Naz on the witness stand had backfired, he asked the guard to burn the footage to disc.

That makes sense. 👍
