Did Ultron disappoint you?

I expected him to be a much more threatening villain and a bigger physical threat than he actually was. I mean, look at this:

Now, look at this and for a second imagine you have never seen the movie. What do you expect from Ultron, based on this trailer?

I really wanted something dangerous and menacing, but instead got a wise-cracking robot with childish behavior. Ultron was my most anticipated villain ever and I was very disappointed.

What do you think?

Still more menacing than Ultron in that cartoon. Emotionless robotic cadence can't convey personality, and the 'beam struggle' was pretty much what we got minus Captain Marvel except Toon Ultron is much less genre-savvy.

Also the things he's 'wise-cracking' about are pretty damn disturbing. Just ask Noah.

What wise cracks did he make? I've seen this film many times and I didn't notice any. 

He was talking about destroying the world.
"I physically can't throw up in my mouth"
He said this because it sounds better than just saying he's disgusted with Captain America/The Avengers.
"I've come to end the world, but also...yeah"
"People create...smaller people!"
I think these were to show that he doesn't fully understand how the world works and that his mind works in a similar way to human minds.

Those were still wise cracks. Wise cracks don't have to come from some comic relief character.

That being said, I've grown to enjoy the movie much more with every rewatch. I think I just expected too much from it at first.

You are sin.

It's a very enjoyable movie. I guess it may not be perfevt, but it really doesn't deserve so much hate. It has great rewatchability.

Yes disappointed I spent $60 to see it...the kids didn't even like it and they love marvel movies...I cant bring myself to watch it again.....horrible

I don't know. His words fit him. He was an intelligent AI with the emotional maturity of a newborn child. A part of him wanted to destroy Stark. Another part of him probably wanted Stark's approval, to show he was superior. Yet at the same time, he was dangerous because that kind of power in someone lacking maturity will always be dangerous and look menacing. He had great power but no responsibility.

I thought he was an excellent villain and my only gripe was he was defeated too quickly and easily at the end and should've been in his vibranium form for the entire movie.

reply

I saw it twice in the theater and I rarely do that anymore.

I was disappointed as well.
I was excited after watching the teaser, knowing Joss Whedon was a great writer I wondered how many super intelligent schemes Ultron would devise to push Avengers to exhaustion.
Afterall he was an artificial intelligence who was supposed to be smarter than any human being. He should have been a talky but menacing and cold villain.
Instead in the movie he was too harmless and joked all the time while getting whooped by all the Avengers. He was so dumb, he didn't even have a backup plan for survival/reattack if he was defeated. I would have planned at least 10 backup schemes if I were him.
Even his 'minion' robots were no weak they seemed to be made of paper.
