Spader was FANTASTIC

Whether or not you enjoyed the humor the writers had for Ultron, I imagine most of us who know movies would agree Spader did an absolutely fantastic job in the role. Showed an amount of emotion you would expect from a super-advanced AI, but didn't overdo it. I thought the one-liners, while not Spaders doing, were delivered very well. Can't really decide which movie was better, I would lean towards the first, but I really thought Spader was a great choice for the role, and he played it brilliantly.

I agree he was great casting as Ultron. It's a shame they killed him off. Why's Loki the only recurring Marvel villain in the Movies?

What's missing in movies is same as in society: a good sense of work ethic and living up to ideals.

Red Skull is still around. Killian is still around. Abomination is still around. You'll see them all again.

reply

Agreed. Regardless of what people thought of the character, James Spader IS Ultron, just like how Tom Hardy IS Bane, Tom Hiddleston IS Loki, Heath Ledger IS The Joker, Terrance Stamp IS General Zod, Alfred Molina IS Doc Oc, etc etc etc.

reply

James Spader basically played himself.

Or, the same character as in Boston Legal, Secretary, The Blacklist..

and he does it well.

His Red from the Blacklist is like no other character in the history of TV. He did bring a lot of him to Ultron, however.

reply

This movie is making me enjoy The Blacklist even more this season and I didn't think that possible. That was Ultron in the diner this weak as well as the cargo ship. The overall plan? Masterful.

He was good but Ultron was poorly written (aside from his opening and ending scenes).

The way he delivers
"That was dramatic"
gives me the smiles everytime

Wish they would've capitalized on that tone.

reply

Isn't that all that really matters?

reply

He did a great job. Despite a totally nerfed Ultron.

I am the Alpha and the Omoxus. The Omoxus and the Omega

reply

Why was he/it nerfed? I think Whedon nailed it.

Ultron from the books was never a good idea just like Fox can never do a Phoenix straight from the books.

reply

Whedon went out on top. Just like Elway, Barry Sanders and Seinfeld. Same concept. Always leave them wanting more when you're at the top.

reply

What is Barry Sanders?

When is The Blacklist coming back? I haven't even seen it listed on NBC for weeks.

It comes back this week.

If it's all the same to you, I'll have that drink now.-Loki (Marvel's Avengers)

He was excellent. Ultron was the genocidal terror he is in the comics but had a psychopathic personality which actually made him more menacing in a way rather than have him be totally emotionless. Despite how destructive he was he still had a bit of a sympathetic quality to him as he had the emotional state of a child but he always came off as a serious threat.

I fail to see what makes this Ultron non-threatening when he has a psychopathic and at times very sadistic personality and caused some serious havoc like the destruction of Sokovia and his actions will single-handedly make people distrust The Avengers in future MCU films.

reply

That 'emotional state of a child' woulda been more apropo in the comics, where he has 'daddy issues' w/Henry Pym(Ant-Man)---his real creator.
