Lark Rise to Candleford

Is this anything like it?

reply

A little bit. The influence is certainly there. Denise is a bit like Laura in that she is determined to succeed. They also show a little bit of the different classes intermingling. I'd like to see a little more outside of the store though.

Other parallels include Miss Audrey being rather prim and quick with the catchphrase "there shall be no (blank);(blank)is a sin" which reminds me of Dorcas' "(blank) is my one weakness".

Ruby Bentall's Pauline is almost identical to her Minnie character. She is much a scene stealer in this as she was in Lark Rise.

I think, perhaps, it is a little darker than Lark Rise. Particularly with the David Hayman character; he is very creepy. Also, there are issues over Moray's late wife, but they wound up seeming minor (for now). The Katherine Glendenning character is also a bit creepy, and seems to be going a darkish route.

If you enjoyed Lark Rise, I think you would enjoy this. I did, although to be honest, I just watched it for Patrick Malahide. He was lovely and much more attractive than the lead, IMO :-) But, it is good in general, though.

Thank you for such a detailed review. I'm a huge fan of Minnie's, so it'll be interesting to such a character in a different setting. I hope it comes to PBS. Between Lark Rise and Downton I'm starting to think I have a thing for British period dramas.

Looks like it should be on Masterpiece, so hopefully you won't have long to wait:

Minnie was such a hoot and Pauline is very much the same. You'll be rooting for her once again :-)

I love British period drama. It seems you just can't go much wrong with it :-)

I couldn't stand Minnie on Lark Rise. She was so dense it was just painful to watch.

I really love Pauline, though. She's got Minnie's quirks but she's still clever and self-aware and also less innocent.

Till the gossamer thread you fling, catch somewhere, O my Soul.

Denise is very much like Laura from "Lark Rise to Candleford", and I don't know if that's such a good thing.
It is one thing to be ambitious and talented, but both Denise and Laura are too stuck-up and bossy for my taste.

There were 3 People from LRtC in the premiere Episode alone.

I only saw Pauline and Dudley. Who are the other 2?
In later episodes there was "Laura" from LRtC.

The actress who plays Miss Audrey from the Paradise voices the adult Laura on Lark Rise.

Same here! i only started watching this show because it was made by the creator of Lark Rise.

However, I find the characters lack the charm and humor that made Lark Rise such a warm and lovely show. The love triangles in this show are also a hot mess. I'm slogging through the first season, and so far, we have Moray who likes Denise AND Katherine, but then he is admired by Denise, Katherine AND Clara, and then Miss Audrey and Denise's uncle have a weird thing going on between them as well. Let's not forget Sam and Pauline, and apparently, Sam and maybe Denise too. Ugh, it's all too much.

I find Denise and Moray to be lacking as the central characters, especially compared to the infinitely more amusing Laura and Dorcas Lane.
