Any other movies like...

Can you guys recommend any other movies like Joe that have come out recently? I'm talking about the dark, rural, realistic vibe, with good-if-not-great acting.

The ones I've already seen:
Mud - good, would be great but the overall tone was too adventurous at times making it stray from the realistic atmosphere.
Blue Ruin - great
Cold in July - great
Cook County - great
Red, White & Blue - amazing, but not for the faint of heart so I can't recommend it. Easily, one of the darkest and most disturbing movies I have ever seen.

If you enjoy the dark, Louisiana, country side vibe you should try True Detective!

That was real? I saw that movie, I thought it was bullsh*t

Southern gothic! Also got a True Detective-esque vibe from watching Joe.

I recently checked out the DVD for "Mystery Road." Great atmospheric crime drama in the Australian outback. Slow paced like this one with a strong emphasis on showing the culture of a place few people ever see. It also depicts the incredible change and damage done by the proliferation of the drug culture to indigenous populations previously not exposed to it.
