The Mission Impossible franchise made James Bond feel lame

It is no wonder why the last batch of Bond films have Bond trying to catch up to Ethan Hunt by ramping up the action when James Bond was never a full on action hero.

Not to mention they have better plot, better stunts, actually fun. Even as silly as Kingsman got. I rather watch that the newest bond films.

reply

Indeed, they are just better movies overall.

I have to disagree. Mission Impossible is more consistent in it's quality, but there are some gems in the Craig era of James Bond. Casino Royale and Skyfall can stand up to any Mission Impossible film.

reply

I could hardly finish Mission Impossible movies and I will never rewatch them. Never understood the appeal of them, with artificial looking stunts and action.

reply

I can totally understand that.

reply

You do have a point.

Absolutely LOVE both of the Christopher McQuarrie-directed "Mission: Impossible" movies. So good!

Yes, Bond has fallen so far behind the recent "M:I"s, which is why they throw upwards of $300 million at each Bond movie to try to make up for it. Doesn't come close, though. "M:I" has out Bond-ed Bond.

reply

Wow, that actually makes sense. Thank god we still have Mission Impossible, but eventually it’ll go the Fast and Furious route.

Mark my words, Ethan Hunt will go to space soon, though James Bond did actually beat him to it 😄

reply

Wrong. Bond did not go to space and since hes dead, thats it

reply

There are other Bond films than just Danial Craig’s.

James Bond went to space in the 1979 film Moonraker where he was played by Roger Moore.

Besides, “Bond will return” according to the end credits of No Time To Die, played by a different actor in a new continuity.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they don't take the audience for granted with Mission Impossible movies. They understand they're kind of goofy and over-the-top, but still manage to include some really great stunts and amazing action sequences, even if I'm not entirely fond of some elements of the film.

But if you watch the latest Mission Impossible it's not too far removed from the films that came before it, including the original from the 1990s. I feel that the first film was a lot darker, though, and a little more espionage based, but the series really hit its stride with MI3, which is still one of my favorites just because of how quickly it moves and how perfectly paced it is.

Bond, meanwhile, is having an identity crisis and other than Casino Royale and Skyfall the rest of the films have been all over the place when it comes to tone, story, consistency, and characterizations.

Even though Casino Royale and Skyfall are great films which I've watched countless times... I had more FUN watching Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and Fallout (which I've also watched countless times).
