Bond franchise the next 20 years

It's safe to say NTTD is a success at the box office, there's no way Barbara Broccoli will let the franchise finish there. So what next? Here's my thoughts, first some origin stories, something we've not seen before. There are 10 or so Young Bond books (Higson/Cole) so there's plenty of material, could easily be 2 or 3 films before he gets 00 status. Set in contemporary times, at the point he becomes 007 everyone will have forgotten the impact of the Craig story arc and we are into a new era. This would easily keep Bond knee deep in villains at the cinema for the next 20 years!

reply

They will make him a woman or Black in the next 20 years. Mark my words. Perhaps Latasha Lynch will really be the only 007 as early as the next film.

reply

Dev Patel will be the next James Bond.

reply

Wouldn't be a bad choice - and one which would actually make sense in terms of the world today.

So many posts just angry about a black woman taking over (don't think will happen, the franchise brand has to sell on the title "James Bond") but no one questions the plausibility of a British black female spy trying to work undercover anywhere in the Middle East...

reply

Bond in a burka! 😂 I shouldn’t laugh, it'll probably happen.

reply

Exactly. Middle East isn't Black. Arabs castrated all the slaves they imported.

reply

It's hard to say, NTTD might just make half of what the previous few Bonds made.

I think we have heard they might go back to the 60's, which might be interesting. If Amazon gets approved to buy MGM we might be seeing Bond movies or television spinoffs exclusively on Amazon without a theater release, who knows?

reply

James Bond should return to the Cold War in my opinion, but I don't think that will happen any time soon. The media seem to want and always push for a James Bond of the current times, most are ignorant of the character and have never read the books.

reply

I agree. A 1960s James Bond again would be a nice change.

reply

If it does happen, Bond will act like a man of the 2020's not the 1960's or as described in the books.

reply

I know this is obvious but the writing has been awful these last few Bonds. I thought Daniel Craig was a great pick to play Bond(and I thought this when he was getting bashed before Casino Royale was released). I was very excited, Casino Royale was great, and then it all went downhill.

I know a ton of things have to go right to make a successful tentpole movie but I just think you have to have the right Bond + great writing as the absolute foundation.

reply

Bad writing let down many of these movies, I would love to see Martin Campbell direct again too, his last action movie was really good, he's still got it!

reply

Yes, it'd be great if they brought Campbell back..having the NTTD director virtue signal right before last month's U.K. release was really pathetic. I know it was all planned, they need to try to wring every nickel and dime they possibly can but wow, what a misfire.

When I saw Craig in Spielberg's Munich (2005), I knew he would do a great Bond. I was right when Casino Royale was released a year later. Quantum of Solace seemed dissappoinment at first sight, but I've grown to appreciate its strengths. It was an ok sequel to Casino Royale (still don't like the editing, though). But after that it seemed that the director (Sam Mendes) and writers seemed to loose understanding of what make Craig's Bond so great.
