You could have said the same thing back in the 60s
How did a generation that grew up witnessing the demise of fascism and was constantly exposed to anti-communist propaganda develop into a bunch of draft-dodging, acid-dropping, pacifist hippies? Without military intervention, Hitler and the Axis Powers would have invaded every country. How does it make sense to endorse pacifism with that in your mind?
Sure, us millenials grew up with these raunchy cartoons. But we also grew up with ghetto/gangster rap, which spoke about the struggles of black people. We grew up after the AIDS epidemic, so we saw that gay people could face discrimination. We grew up watching strong female figures on TV: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Xena: Warrior Princess, Scully from X-Files, Ally McBeal, etc. etc.
I'm not picking sides. I hate SJWs as much as I hate conservatives. I just think that the pendulum tends to swing back and forth. The Vietnam War was a big catalyst for the hippie movement. Millenials witnessed 9/11 and the age of Terrorism since we were kids. Right after 9/11 there was a period of hawkish patriotism (remember changing french fries to Freedom fries because France didn't want to join us in the war?). Now the pendulum is swinging in the other direction. People became disillusioned after two decades of non-stop wars.
At the same time, we have probably the most anti-SJW president in history. So it's not all that simple. Extreme movements tend to breed extreme opposition. Who knows where this next decade will take us
