Did anyone else think that ?????SPOILERS

If she hadn't married Tony, there is no doubt in my mind that she would have just stayed in Ireland. She would have had everything she wanted there- got to stay with her mother, have a good job, be back home, and met a guy who liked her who was financially stable. Come to think of it, if her old boss never confronted her that she knew she was married already, I think she would have just left Tony stranded. I feel bad for both male characters. The first really liked her and wanted to make her happy, and the other had no idea that she was married so she led him on.

I agree that she would have stayed and married Jim, but maybe would later come to resent him for giving up her "opportunities and freedom" in America to be with him.

I disagree. Given the era she would have done exactly what she did which was stayed true to her husband. Tony knew this that's why he was so insistent on getting married before she left. With Jim I think she felt excited that she could attract the type of man she couldn't before the maturity living abroad gave her but she would have eventually missed the opportunities and freedom she had in America. She didn't want to stay in Ireland not even for her mother, she just felt guilty about leaving again.

Also, having not told anyone upon her arrival home that she was married, it soon became much more difficult to reveal that. Which was a sign of personal weakness, but not necessarily of a conniving two-timer.
