** SPOILERS ** Will Definitely Lose Viewers re:plot decision about Vane

1 - Charles Vane is arguable the most sexualised of the male characters, making him attractive to many female and male viewers.

2 - He also has the only real M/F passionate love/hate relationship (with Eleanor) on the show, which viewers also love, and which can keep a series in production for years.

3 - Add to this the fact that Zach MacGowan himself has a very sexual image, and is arguably the most attractive of the male actors.

I hope that it was Zach MacGowans decision to leave Black Sails, otherwise the Producers have made a terrible decision.

I totally agree with each and every point you have written. I was in shock 😨. I could not believe what I was watching.😱 And then, I cried. 😢. My only hope is a spin-off, but I couldn't be that lucky😂 For me, Black Sails will not be as much fun to watch. Zach MacGowan was perfect in his role😍 He put the zing 😉 in Black Sails. I will miss Vane, as will many, many others!

What….? I can't speak on behalf of straight women who watch the show but usually the main appeal isn't to watch the characters have sex, if that's what you mean by sexualised.

This is kind of old-fashioned thinking. I know a lot of people, myself included, who were attracted by Black Sails for its diverse relationships. I seriously doubt the lack of Vane/Eleanor will result in fewer viewers, but of course your guess is as good as mine.

Personally I have never been a huge fan of Vane so I didn't think of it as a huge loss at all. I would much rather lose him than Flint, Silver or hell, even Jack.

Jack/Anne is another M/F relationship in Black Sails and if you ask me I think Jack & Anne relationship is more cute than Vane & Eleanor especially that Eleanor is the most annoying character for me and I was always wishing for Vane to find another girl.

Perhaps for its Bahamas  settings with Haiti not far away, some bokor among the escaped slaves could resurrect Vane as a zombie.
Would be an interesting spin off.

Zack McGown gave heart & humanity to his character. And lets face it, he had some serious swagger. That's all gone now. I'm out.

I loved the character and I enjoy Zach's work on other shows, but I never thought this was his best work (mainly because of the mumbling!). I still liked the performance a lot though, but he got a really great send off, so who can complain about that?

As far as him being sexy...I know lots of other women and gay men are into him, but he's not my type at all. I will drool all day long over Toby Stephens. As long as Flint is on the show, I will watch the $hit out of it and be content.
