If you had the powers of Kilgrave

Admit it, you'd use them to get the the same things Kilgrave does. He's the most realistic villain out there. He's not out to conquer the world. He's just out to get laid. That makes him cool.

Wouldn't Apocalypse be able to "enhance" his powers, enabling him to learn how to turn it off?

reply

I'm wondering just how realistic it actually was, that he mostly kept to himself and obsessed over JJ. I mean , didn't he have this ability since he was able to free himself as a kid?

Wouldn't it be more realistic that this kind of power would lead to a huge impact on the world? You would think this kind of power would drive him to the limits. I think he would eventually start doing very messed up stuff just for the sake of being able to. He'd be walking down the street chanting 'pee your pants' . He would perpetually get bored and up the game , eventually having people harm themselves and others. He might even eventually head to DC and start nuking countries, who knows what he'd get up to without even caring about the consequences.

Well, that Kilgrave didn't have grander plans is why he was able to live for so long. You have to remember that most criminals get caught as a result of getting greedy, causing them to spend excessively or kill off accomplices. If Kilgrave had not been so obsessed with Jessica and had the strength to just avoid her, he could have spent his entire life living the way he was. Drifting from penthouse to penthouse doing whatever he wanted, but the minute he gives into his obsession he's doomed.

reply

Exactly.

I'm sure for many the temptation and boredom would be there. But really if he started doing stuff like walking down the street using his powers he would soon be "out" and a top priority for authorities to catch/stop. Sure it might prove hard to do that, but they would in the end. And while they're trying to stop him, he has to be careful and constantly have contingency plans etc.

He's much safer under the radar and sponging off society like a parasite. If he did sent off nukes he'd basically be killing off his host which invariably kills the parasite.

I just find it hard to believe a bad guy would have that much control. I guess his traumatic childhood kept him in check, helped his mind form the kind of personality that didn't let such immense power 'go to his head'

reply

Fair point, but fear of losing his little fantasy world could be powerful too.

Would have been interesting for him to have a close call. Could have been the police station sequence instead of suggesting all those cops just pretended that didn't happen.

What are you implying? Kilgrave ordering some, if not, all of the cops present to shoot each other/themselves?

No I meant a close call with his powers/existence becoming known and attracting attention. With respect to Kilgrave being smart to stay under the radar.

The police station thing could have easily led to the cops banding together to seek Kilgrave out and spread the word that he's "out there" which in turn would have made it harder for Kilgrave to stay out of the spotlight.

So Brett, Clemmons and some of the other cops tell IAB, "Yeah, a British guy in his 40s commanded us to all point guns at each other or ourselves. He uh, yeah, he looked like he was a stalker with a crush on Miss Jones. He also threatened to make us eat our phones if they went off."

Given the support group members, I think it could've worked if the show established that the cops at the precinct realized exactly what had happened - Ruben's head, the Mexican standoff and Russian Roulette poses, "THE NEXT PERSON WHOSE PHONE RINGS HAS TO EAT IT!!", Kilgrave telling them to dismiss it as a hilarious joke, all of it. That sure would be interesting since Jessica would have more people to rely on than just her neighbors, plus Simpson and Trish. I'm sure some scenes would have to be rewritten. For instance, Jessica going to her childhood house after Kilgrave takes over it? It'd be likely to have her going in with a stakeout team having her record the conversation on her phone (similar to when Misty tricks her shift lieutenant into admitting to being a mole for Cottonmouth). Or Jessica ends up being able to focus more on her HC&B stuff, enough that Jeri wouldn't be tempted to use Kilgrave on Wendy, and let the cops handle Kilgrave.

It'd also be interesting to see how the NYPD higher-ups would treat the Kilgrave situation. I guess they could treat him as a terrorist or a public health crisis, and creating their own ways to counteract Kilgrave's powers.

There's a word for that: freeloaders. Kilgrave is a freeloader.

One point to keep in mind is that you can't rule the world with this power. Hell, you can't rule ANYTHING. Being able to rule means being able to delegate responsibility to others, to work in a structure. And with a power as uncontrollable and unpredictable as Kilgrave's, you can't do that. Any structure you try to build, even a ma and pop general store in the boondocks, would just come crashing down after a while. That's why Kilgrave is shown in the show as completely alone. He has to be. He can't function in any kind of society.

If you have to "hypnotized" women to do things against her will, like fúcking you, then you are a rapist. So, no, I don't have rape desires like you, you sick fúck

reply

If she agrees to it, it's not against her will. Learn to use some logic. Rape is only when she says no. She said yes and enjoyed it, so it's not rape by definition. By your sick logic any man who has ever talked a woman into having sex with him when she was initially reluctant is a rapist. In the real world we call that seduction, not rape. All men are rapists by your sick definition.

Convincing someone to have sex with you is not the same as brainwash them into doing it against their will, you moron.

reply

Well if he brainwashed her into enjoying it then what was so terrible about it. No harm, no foul. Maybe if he'd hurt her by getting her pregnant or giving her an STD it would of been a bad thing to do, but he didn't hurt her, he just had hot sex with her. There's nothing tramautizing or awful about sex between two adults. Give me a break.

You don't get it. You really don't get it. Look up consent. Or better yet, re-watch the entire season, especially the episode where they both meet at a house. It's what it all was about (hint: how Killgrave raped JJ)

I'm done here. Moving on, you sick troll.

People like you make me glad that mind-control powers don't actually exist. You don't even consider Kilgrave to be a villain, do you?

I am one with the Force; the Force is with me.

I have to admit, having Kilgrave's powers would be a terrible temptation.

By the way, Kilgrave COULD control Jessica at first. I think when he saw she had super powers, he liked her because he could relate to her. It was someone else like him, in a way.

reply

Yes, considering he can't really control them. I'd probably just chill out and try to take each day as is comes.
I guess sleeping around and wearing other peoples clothes gets old after a while.

I definitely wouldn't use the power to rape women. If that's what you'd do, you're pretty messed up.

I'd use the power to just make life easier. In college I'd tell every teacher to give me a 4.0 and never do any work. I'd go to things for free.
