I'm starting to think season 1 was a fluke

I've only finished the first season 3 episode and it seems like they are trying to recapture the magic but it's just not the same.
I'll still watch it - Mahershala Ali is a great actor. However I doubt it will come anywhere close to the 1st one.

I agree. Thinking the same thing the entire time. The magic is just, not , there. It doesnt exist.

Sad to hear this.

I didn’t really like S2 much and was over the moon for S1. Is S3 even worth my time?

reply

Yes, I just finished episode five. Season one is one of my favourite seasons of any show ever. season two was disappointing this season is phenomenal. I’m not going to say it’s as good as season one, but it feels very similar in the right way, not a copy but it just really really good meticulous writing. I love it

Need to give it more time. Season 1 took a while to get going.

Season 1 fizzled out at the end too. Too much hype surrounded it and expectations went too high for the finale which was a huge letdown.

You say this like its a widely believed opinion...

Its fine if thats what you think...

But based on Literally all data, The Overwhelming Majority does not even remotely share your opinion.

season 1 is one of the highest rated seasons of all time...Its Universally praised by almost everyone....the last half of the season is rated just as high as the first half.

To be perfectly honest, there just not 1 thing in your statement thats true.

Too Much Hype? Expectations went too High?

The Hype literally didnt even start until the first Episode aired...

There wasnt some HUGE fanbase waiting for that season...

simply put, The Show EXPLODED upon the first episode airing...The Quality of the show itself and The Performances by the cast is STARTED Hype....

I dont not know how you can possibly say there was "too much Hype and Expectations" and say it in a way thats suggesting it didnt live up to the Hype and Expectation....When The HYPE and EXPECTATIONS ONLY came as a direct result of The Show's quality...

Season 2 is the definition of what your saying....going into season 2...There was a huge fanbase, Hype and Expectations were through the roof after the incredible first season, HBO got a Great cast....annnnnd the season in no way lived up to the hype and expectations.

lol season 1 had no hype or expectations going in....no one knew what to expect...

The Hype and Expectations came from the show itself, It happened While the show was airing...and all data states...It more than lived up to the hype and expectations

Yeah if you didn't watch the original airing then maybe it's a different experience. We were on the edge of our fucking seats.

I am liking Season 3. It might be trying too hard to recapture the Season 1 magic (which was almost "A+" TV, minus the ending that got a little lost), but it, so far, is very good.

I'm not a season 2 hater like so many folks. Yes, it was more like a "B-", which is still entertaining.

reply

Same grades.

Season 3 is good TV so far, no doubt about it. I think we all just hope to see more of that season one weird energy.

reply

True, the show has not been able to match that Brilliant season one but that's not an easy thing to do either.

reply

So far, season 3 has been good (far better than S2) but it, indeed, does not have the same feeling as S1. Probably some unseen contributors to the first season that are not around anymore (as in the multiple-chefs thing with early Star Wars).

Season 3 is really hammering the racism. They're showing 1960s levels of racism in every decade of this show. It feels a little odd. It makes me feel bad for Purple and pissed off at the tons of racists in the show. Are they getting at something in the plot or is this their genuine impression of every era?
