sharelol Sorry to hear that. Nowadays it's for artistic purposes but I agree this film would probably interest me a lot more in color. Still looks like a fantastic film just going by the trailer but color would be nice.
shareI think b/w can work really well for certain films but, judging by the trailer, this isn't one of those films. I think it would have been better in colour.
shareEspecially with the poster the movie is being advertised with, doesn't make much sense.
shareI was put off at first sitting in the theater, but after about 10 minutes I couldn't imagine the film any other way. It was absolutely perfect.
shareNowadays it's for artistic purposesThis reply is just like yours. It contains words, but doesn't say anything. share

That's a great witticism. Who did you copy it off?
shareIt was inspired by woody Allen's Manhattan which makes sense there about people living in a dull world
sharewow, so much odd judgement from people who haven't even seen this.
Black and white is a beautiful format.
A reason he may have shot this in black and white is because it was shot on DSLR, which isn't nearly as good as color rendering as film or a top notch digital cinema camera like the Alexa or Red cameras. Baumbach may thought black and white was the best choice aesthetically because of the type of camera being used.
Baumbach said in interviews that 1) He is inspred by Woody Allen B&W films about New York (Manhattan, etc) 2) The B&W gives this film a nostalgic feel, while it tells a very contemporary story.
If you act like an idiot, they'll treat you as their equal.
B&W will eliminate any distraction you may have with colour and have you focused on the characters and story instead.
shareThen allow me to recommend a gem of a film called "Pleasantville". It's about a brother and sister from the 1990s who find themselves in a 1950s television show. What works about the black and white is it symbolizes the ignorance of the characters in the show, and as they learn about the world outside their town everything slowly becomes colour. It's very neat. This was one of Reese Witherspoon's earlier roles.

I'm sure the ones that "hate black and white movies" (arts impaired) really detest foreign movies with subtitles, but for the true movie lover, Luc Besson's Angel-A is a beautiful example of black and white filming at its best! I think a lot of the haters are foreign teens, so they also couldn't appreciate classics like Casablanca and the Marx Brothers movies or western classics like High Noon. Although "America Westerns" are popular with Danish and Russian film makers, these teens on this thread probably wouldn't enjoy westerns either.
Under our clothes, we are all naked! Bare nipples (of females), genitals or buttocks is nudity.
This is seldom a legitimate complaint with a film. And that's mostly because black and white film is rarely used inappropriately. Certainly not so here.
shareA very poor excuse for not liking B&W films. Some of the best films ever made were in B&W. For this film it works perfectly. Unfortunately the film doesn't work. When it' over - and it's very short - despite the clever dialogue and many laughs, I felt shafted and taken in. Am I alone?
shareI did not care much for black and white either. Overall dislike of it for sure, but it kinda almost worked in this. Still, meh.

This movie was great and I loved that it was in B&W.
share"Schindler's List"...except for a short bit.
