Disappointing.

All the hype, the box office success, the weeks of waiting and that's it?

Aesthetically the movie is strong. Some nice photography choices, decent editing and the atmosphere at times was good.

The acting was fine I guess but I saw people discuss why Lee Harker (Maika Monroe) was so... flat and awkward. Some online speculated if she was meant to be autistic or something, I can see why. I've seen Maika in other roles so I know that's not how she normally comes across. You do learn a bit about her character which could explain why they wanted her to seem a bit odd but still I didn't find her that likable or engaging as a protagonist.

Nicolas Cage... I'm not a hater of his but by God did he ham it up here. I'm not sure his take on the character of Longlegs was the right choice... nor the chalk white makeup look. A silly weirdo of a villain.

The mystery was done quite well but the movie lacked scares, gore, nudity, all those scintillating aspects of R rated horror movies. The tension was even under cooked.

Basically the movie looks nice and has some mystery to it. Most everything else falls flat.

Given it's lack of entertaining factors I don't see this holding up on rewatches, unless you watch it as background noise for the ambience.

Once you've seen it, saw how it plays out, know the twists, it just isn't going to hold up that well I don't think.

I saw some people say Longlegs was overrated and that Oddity was the true horror gem of the summer, they were right.

Problems I had with it:

- The face reveal. Why hide the face for so long to reveal it at that particular moment? It should have been revealed during the interrogation.

- The twist with the mom was dumb.

- The explanation of the way she solved the puzzles was poorly done.

- I've seen this kind of film before. Killer on the loose, cops investigate, they find a mysterious clue, they try to solve it, they find someone who may have seen the killer at one point etc.

- What's with the fascination with T. Rex? I like them as much as the next guy, but there were at least 4 references to them.

The face looked fucking stupid. Would have been better to hide it for good.

Nicolas Cage's Longlegs is like Art the Clown to me. A fantastic villain in the wrong movie.

Longlegs would have been an awesome creepy as fuck serial killer without the silly Satan worship and voodoo dolls mind control BS.

I agree. I wish they just went the 'true crime' style the full course. Adding supernatural stuff wasn't needed.

I loved it 🤷

It’s a thoughtful horror movie, so they didn’t go with scares, gore, nudity: if you’re expecting Friday the 13th or Night of the Living Dead, you’ll be disappointed . It was like Law & Order meets The Exorcist
