What's wrong with it?

I've not seen it yet but I hear a lot of people don't like it.

WHY?

reply

Pretty much everything. Bad direction, terrible script, Cruise just looks bored, he has no chemistry with the lead actress, the antagonist just waves her hands around a lot, the movie seems way more interested in establishing some type of universe than in telling an interesting story.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/rrT_CyvSp5c

Thanks. It sounds horrid. But I might try to watch it anyway. Cheers again.

Only the final act is terrible, the rest is ok.

Its a typical tom cruise movie. If you like those, youll like this. Its nothing special by any stretch, and as soneone else said it does lay on the universe building a little thick at times.

I'm a big Tom Cruise fan, but unlike his other movies, this was really empty-headed with no substance at all. The biggest crime (even if you *can* get past it being a dumb blockbuster) was that apart from the beginning, it lacked any other 'big' set-pieces (and seemed very stage bound) and what outdoor shots there were, looked green-screen (which gave the picture a 'cheap' look...which it was in reality, anything but?)

Thanks for all the replies...not sure if I want to see it now.

Its 'The Mummy'. As someone else explained somewhere on the boards, if you go in with the expectation that this is just a fun bit movie, with Tom Cruise, doing his regular shtick, you will find no problem.

I just find that the internet is very quick to jump on the bandwagon, that if a group says it sucks (rotten tomatoes et al), then its decided, everyone will go with it.

I don't think we are doing it consciously, but unknowingly, we just have a negative view on the movie from that moment and just tend to agree with that view at the end.

I urge you to watch the movie and decide for yourself.

I hear what you're saying....but the big problem I had with this movie, is that it wasn't (quote) "fun"
EDGE OF TOMORROW was fun (whilst being thought-provoking) even KNIGHT AND DAY was fun (or at very least 'slick')
THE MUMMY however, was neither. I like Tom Cruise (and was really looking forward to this movie)

But it just felt malnourished and empty (and it sort of looked like no-one had fun making it either?)

BTW, I've never visited 'Rotten Tomatoes' in my life (and most of my favourite movies, are deemed, by-and-large, terrible)

reply

cool. Exactly, if you saw the movie and hate it and are not influenced by all the other comments out there, thats your opinion.

I havent visited rotten tomatoes either and I still dont get why movie reviews and critics are a big thing. I read/watch them, but, it wouldn't change my position on whether I will watch the movie or not.

and about the movie, yes, its not a great movie. But i didnt hate it either. I just think it had lot of expectations on it and couldnt deliver. otherwise, it was a solid enough movie for me, to try to establish their monster universe.

i completely agree with you that the movie didnt go BIG enough. it wasnt extravagant enough for a movie which is supposed to kick start the monster universe.

Anyway, i still think Universal will go ahead with their plans. I'm still interested in their shared universe.

On a side note: what I want is, a shared multi-universe. COME ON!!! Mummy fighting Doctor Strange or Godzilla fighting the Pacific Rim Robots.

COme on Hollywood, mash it all up! give us a brain freeze with the overdose.

Wanted to like it but didn't

Me too. I don't consider myself a Tom Cruise fan but I have to admit, I usually like his movies. This was a stinker. 4/10
