It seems the media has different levels of critique for films that are directed and star African Americans. This film is very amateurish, formulaic, and fairly boring.
However, it is a serious film about race in the United States and was made by and stars blacks. Therefore, I guess it deserves an Oscar?

Yes you sir are most certainly the ultimate authority on film and its quality. Things like relativity and subjectivity? pfft that just gets in the way of typing in blatant flame bait under the guise of 'biting (faux) political incorrectness'.

Awards for performance arts have long been a topic of debate. How do you compare different films and different roles? It's such a problematic process on the face of it. So, uniformity is lacking and objectivity is impossible.
That means, I cannot make a cause and effect relationship between any one factor (in this case, race) and whether a film is chosen for an award. I fail to see how you can make such a claim.
I agree that the film is amateurish and formulaic. I'd go a bit further saying it's a failed, propaganda film, unworthy of serious attention from professionals.
I agree that the film is amateurish and formulaic.
And you gave The Internship, Now You See Me, and Twilight a 10... (not that those are bad films, but please tell me you gave them a 10 either just to bump the rating up or because you're joking).

Okay, but first, give me the stakes. LOL What happens if I DO stand by my ratings? Will worlds collapse, will aliens appear, will frogs rain from the sky?
Ah, I will not wait. I will dare to risk all. :)
I can't remember The Internship, at all. I saw it, but couldn't tell you the story or who the actors are. So, perhaps that rating is a bit high.
Now You See Me... yes, yes yes! Worlds be damned, it's a 10! Deal, baby, deal. ;)
Twilight - pleading the 5th.
But, hey jimmy, why are my ratings of interest?

But when I wrote it, I couldn't remember if I was thinking of Short Cuts or Magnolia. What I do recall clearly is the sound of the frogs landing. Ick!
Haha, idk. I'm just wondering about your taste. It's a bit xxxxxx to judge though, I will admit. Sorry. I'll stop.
No offense taken. It's fine. Judge away... :)
I have a thick skin and a playful sense of humor and if all else fails... I like debate.
I'm relatively new to these boards so if people check each other's ratings, it's new to me. I don't know why a stranger on the internet would care about my taste in films. Which is why I asked. I thought the ratings were for the production companies to use for their purposes. But, I guess if you look at the list and the ratings, you can learn things about others.
