'Breh'

Watched this the other day. I guess like a few others I found the movie a bit over rated whilst still being a relatively enjoyable flick.

One thing that grated on me to no end was Oscar's constance use of 'breh' instead of 'bro' or 'bra'. Did this drive anyone else up the wall!? It seemed like it was way overused and made his 'gangster' chat seem a little cheesy.

Stupid thing to notice but it just bugged the hell outta me!?

reply

sure..it was very annoying..but i hear it is very commonly used.

reply

he sez bruh, not breh

reply

Ha. The phrase is "bruh" and he means to say that...it just comes out as "BREH" . Watch the movie again. It's very clearly "BREH".

reply

I turned on the sub-titles. lol

After 40 minutes, I just skipped to 'the incident' ...

reply

Yep, because pretending to not know the whole/real story makes for the perfect excuse when you justify what happened to him.....huh, BRUH?

I could be how the guy in real life talked.

reply

it's a northern california thing.

it didn't bother me, but i could tell michael b. jordan isn't from the bay or doesn't use it in his day to day.

THEY SHOOTIN'! ah, i made you look.

reply

Haven't seen this movie yet, but I'm from the same area Oscar is from, and we do indeed say "bruh". "Brah" sounds like surfer talk to me, and I've never heard it said here. "Bro" is commonly used, but "Bruh" is definitely the go to nor cal word.

reply

I didn't notice all this "bruh"/"brah"/"breh" until a couple of years ago. Before that I only heard it used in Hawaii pidgin.

reply

Bro, bruh, breh, and all its variations just annoy me. I hate it when guys say it to sound all gangster and hardcore, it just makes them sound like douchebags. Makes me want to slap them and yell "SPEAK ENGLISH".

When you grow up, your heart dies.

reply

there's nothing about that slang that suggests they're attempting to sound gangster, so many people say that and I'd bet you have only heard it from people who are quite obviously not gangsters. i want to slap obnoxious people that make wild assumptions just to have something to whinge about.

reply

Speak for yourself. Practically every person I've heard say it also pretend they have 'swagger' and act like they're hot sh!t.

reply

Acting like they have swagger and having swagger or being a "gangster" are two different things.

reply

Do movies like Pulp Fiction or Scarface annoy you when they say everytime fxck or mothafcker? It's their way of communicating with each other, they don't want to sound gangster or whatever...

reply

Nope, I'm completely fine with f@ck and motherf@cker. I just feel like it's usually a certain type of douche that says "bro", "bruh", "breh" and all its variations.

We're running around like we don't care
It's gonna leave its mark somewhere.

reply

I use breh/bruh pretty frequently. I can see why it might annoy others though. Everyone has little pet peeves like that

reply

Breh, Bro, Bra.. ALL OF THEM are irritating!
