You guys know that it was an accident, right?

The policeman was going for his taser but in the heat of the moment pulled his handgun by accident. You guys realize this, right? It was a tragic accident to be sure but it is not a racially motivated one. Why did a movie need to be made about this? Do me need to make a movie every time someone is accidentally killed by someone else?

reply

yeah I know it was an accident but you gotta admit those damn cops were too rough and hostile.

reply

Why was he going for his taser? Oscar Grant was handcuffed and lying face down on the ground. To say that the hostility shown those young men had nothing to do with race is naive at best.

Putting myself in a cop's shoes for a moment...

I'd enter a hostile situation in high alert, adrenaline pumping and ready to take control to restore order.

I'd look for the violent ones, the angry, loud ones, the runners and the defiant. Really, I'd look at whomever was not showing deference, and obedience, to my authority and commands. You know, check to see who is staying still, hands in view and displaying cooperation - then focus on who is left still in need of externally applied control.

If the mere presence of police does not inspire a person to shut up and obey, then the police will order commands to do so. If they aren't obeyed, then they take steps to achieve, de facto, obedience.

An arrest means that the citizen turns around and puts their hands together to present themselves to be cuffed. While the citizen may verbally complain while this happens, they need to keep it respectful enough that the police are not feeling ANY threat to their authority and dominance of the situation and of that citizen. If that citizen verbally abuses the authority and chooses to add angry expressions to the situation, then they may as well say, "I am like the prey that runs from a lion and in doing so, appears to be dinner."

So, why the taser? Oscar had stood up and beat his own chest while speaking angrily AFTER being commanded to sit down. Please note the men beside Oscar whom knew enough to keep their hands in plain view and to stay down! Even after making the police escalate to the next step - putting him completely down on the ground, Oscar can be seen to be kicking with his feet, and struggling against the police, raising his head and chest. Oscar had lived in prison. He KNEW to submit and he CHOSE to fight, instead. So, a taser was needed to apply that external motivation Oscar needed to subdue him.

To say that the hostility shown those young men had nothing to do with race is naive at best.

See my explanation above. Please note... it has nothing to do with racism against black men - something Oscar didn't control, and it has everything to do with a criminal choosing to act like a criminal. If race is involved here, and I think it is, it's about how much hatred young black males are taught to express towards white people, particularly, white people in a position of authority, over them.

I think it is that hatred ^^^ that confuses young black men to this point of self-destructive stupidity, such as Oscar exemplifies.

Did you know that police usually keep their taser on the opposite side of their belt as their hand gun. And that the taser is half the weight of a handgun.

reply

It's called the heat of the moment. People make mistakes sometimes. Do you really think he planned on shooting Oscar in the back with a handgun? Even if he was so sadistic do you think he thought he could get away with it?

Sure, he should be punished, but NEVER underestimate what peoples brains do under stress.

reply

Am I wrong for thinking that a trained and *armed* police officer should be able to handle stressful situations without confusing two entirely different weapons worn on polar opposite sides of his body?

reply

i'd call shooting a guy in the back that was facedown subdued, killing him, and then spending just 11 months in jail, "Getting away with it", wouldn't you?

reply

Accident or not, you know 11 months for killing an unarmed person in custody is disgusting right?

THEY SHOOTIN'! ah, i made you look.

reply

He had absolutely no reason to tase him.

reply

He had absolutely no reason to tase him

Sure he did- he wanted him tased. What other reason could there be?

I must agree a point blank lethal shot to the back warrants far longer than 11 months.

Was Officer Ingram a rookie cop? Officer Caruso is a more complex beast (brilliantly played by Kevin Durand) just how racist was he. He prevented Oscar Grant from drowning in his own blood and told him to keep his eyes open. Obviously he wanted him to live.

I admit that I did not know much about this case, my reason for watching it is I've known Kevin Durand since the early 90's and support his career.

I did some reading, I must agree that this was a straight up execution. Mehserle's lawyer was able to prove reasonable doubt but he still should have gotten second degree murder.

It's sad that this film got shut out, it deserved better. I blame Quentin Tarantino's revenge porn for that, after taking in the excessive hyper violence of Django Unchained I had no desire to watch anymore race themed films.

Dr. Seuss?

I suppose it did. Certainly deserved better actors, a better dirtector, and a better script.

I blame Quentin Tarantino's revenge porn for that

If you could return to your Inferno that would be great. This Earth has a surplus of morons.

And after the cop shot him, he cuffed him. That was really unnecessary.

With this being said, its seems Oscar was resisting while being cuffed..

reply

In the movie? Or real life? Bc in the movie, he's got an officer kneeling on his head and another officer telling him to roll over then shooting him in the back. I don't consider that "resisting", I call that an inability to comply, or "being set the *beep* up"

I'll just read your reply...that should be the equivalent, b!tch boy.

Why do morons always get so mad when you acknowledge them as such? They post at a third grade level, obviously wanting it to be read. Then get all upset when we do read it. Weird.

I don't get mad, I enjoy eviscerating bullies. I made a valid point, if you disagreed with it you could have offered a counter opinion. Instead you chose to lead with your sphincter so I choose to treat you as one.

A valid point...that you did some reading and it was an execution. Neat.
Oh man was I eviscerated.

If you can't demonstrate some intelligence could you at least try for something with even a hint of humor? This k-12 fart stuff is just lame. You don't have to lose your dignity too.

So some troll threatened physical violence at Anna Kendrick. I love the girl so I address the incident. I'm pasting it to this thread:

Just to illuminate where the op stands with his violent comment. I'm a 230 lbs former bricklayer who studies judo. I met Anna Kendrick during TIFF and found her to be irresistibly charming.

What chance would you have?

Tell that to this man's mother, wife, daughter.

Oscar was unarmed and laying on his stomach. He wasn't a threat to the cop at all. I really doubt cops have their guns and tasers on the same side of their belts. And after the cop shot him, he cuffed him. That was really unnecessary.

Lol at the idiots who believes the cop was reaching for his taser, anyone with a brain can tell that's an excuse made up by his lawyer. that cop was a racist *beep* who just wanted to kill a brother. hope he got raped when he was in jail.

reply

My thoughts exactly. The cop knew what he was doing. The OP is a *beep* idiot. Saying the family is better off without him? Wow.

reply

The OP sounds like a racist ass. But the cop knew what he was doing? Really? He knew he was committing cold blooded murder by shooting someone in the back in front of witnesses with cameras, which would end his career and get him sent to prison (albeit not for long enough)? And he thought it was worth it? "My life will be ruined, but at least I got to shoot some random black dude that I don't know." Really? Did you actually think this through?

How do you think the cop thought he was going to get away with it? The OP comes across poorly, maybe racist; but I don't believe this cop would expect to be able to commit cold blooded murder by shooting someone in the back in front of witnesses with cameras running.
