‘Godzilla Minus One’ Writer-Director Takashi Yamazaki Returns for New Godzilla Movie

A new “Godzilla” movie is in development with “Godzilla Minus One” writer/director/visual effects supervisor Takashi Yamazaki set to return, Toho announced on Friday.

“Godzilla Minus One,” released at the end of last year, was a surprise box office smash. The movie, made for less than $10 million, was set before the events of the original 1954 “Godzilla” movie (hence the “minus one”) and wound up making $116 million worldwide. It is the highest grossing Japanese film in United States box office history and the third most successful foreign language film in the United States.

Here's hoping that the director has the intelligence to follow the same path he made when making the first film, which I LOVED!
Hopefully, he has a good idea for resurrecting Godzilla which makes sense.

Hopefully he can bring Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra into this one. It might make sense to introduce extraterrestrial life sooner than later, since that's a recurring theme. Maybe seemingly friendly aliens from space show up with Ghidorah as a way to stop Godzilla, but turn the tables once Godzilla has been eliminated, but of course, Godzilla comes back to save the day in the final reel, with help from his two flying friends.

I understand where you are coming from, but personally, I wouldn't want to see an all-out monster war. I had enough of that with the Monsterverse movies.
Minus One gave us the TRUE Godzilla. All death and destruction. Not a gigantic superhero.

I guess my joke was too convincing. I was trying to describe the worst possible sequel to Godzilla Minus One!

LOL! You typed so convincingly though!

You should see what I write about Jaws: The Revenge.

Speaking of Jaws 4, have you watched the entry where Richard Jeni makes fun of Jaws 4? It is HYSTERICAL!!!!

reply

Lets gets a Godzilla film with a more racial diverse cast than what Toho gave us during the 50's thru the 70s

reply

I just hope that the extraterrestrial life is more racial diverse than the previous alien invasion Godzilla movies

It's probably inevitable that Godzilla will fight at least one other monster in this new film. I just hope it retains the same quality as far as the human characters go. Minus One was such a moving story.

Yamazaki seems like quite the purist, so that would be kind of cool if Anguirus became the first opposing monster of this universe as well.

Yes to all. And yeah, something with Godzilla Raids Again vibes.
