Absolutely Riveting
If one of the goals of a film is to inspire an emotional reaction in viewers, this one does so in spades. I don't think I've ever watched a movie where my hands were in fists for 90% of the time. Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Durand both give exceptional performances. You can feel Matthew's desperation and rage while every scene with Mika makes your skin crawl.
Egoyan made the wise decision to never show images related to abuse (all was implied), so that viewers were spared the kind of horror that Detectives Dunlop and Cornwall had to witness. There were some plot holes (Mika's prison visit to see Willy being the most glaring), but the intensity of the story keeps you thoroughly invested. An excellent thriller that deserves a wider audience.
