Oh, good. Another indie "We don't really have a climax or ending" movie.

What is it with the trend of making an indie movie that doesn't have a climax, resolution, etc.? It's what non-creatives like to call a "slice of life" movie. Here's something that's happening, aaaaand... drive away in a car and fade out.

After watching this, I wanted someone to vampire me to death.

Slice Of Life films are great when done correctly, this ABSOLUTELY was. Acclaim all around. It's well filmed, the music matched the mood and the acting was solid. Usually adds up to a good piece of cinema

I viewed the ending as more of a "mental" resolution that took place in Arash's head when he got out of the car and stood in the desert. He suspects the Girl was responsible for his father's death but the desire to get out of Dodge and his strong feelings for the vampire outweigh his feelings for his dead, junkie father.

Climax = mental resolution = acceptance

He drives away the car with his known Vamire girlfriend to a maybe better but also darker, less innocent life. His life changed dramatically. What other kind of resolution would you desire?

There was a climax, it was just subtle. Arash comes to realize that the girl killed his father (or at least that she was heavily involved). She already told him that she does bad things and I got the impression that she wasn't going to be involved with him unless she got a loud and clear signal that he was cool with that. The climax is the final scene where he stops the car. This is where he is trying to make up his mind about whether he wants to accept her even though she "does bad things" which quite possibly (to his knowledge) involved his father's murder, so it makes it that much more of a big deal. A big part of what is likely to confuse is that the tape/song that Arash plays likely (I don't understand the language) illustrates his choice more clearly since he doesn't have to vocalize it. But I'm pretty sure that's what the message was, because if you're paying attention, her reaction is everything. And how he looks at her is just as revealing. The climax is that Arash chose to accept her despite her flaws, and the suspense leading up to that decision.

A few more lines her on behalf wouldn't have hurt. I didn't completely buy the bond between them.

There was an ending. Just because it wasn't the bloodbath you wanted doesn't make it less of an ending. There's an emotional resolution for the characters story.

Agree, OP. It simply ended, no climax, no real emotional connection with the characters - dull and disappointing. It was missing a huge "je ne sais quois", that's for sure....

I think it would have been better had it ended after she packed her bags and picked up the cat, instead of including the scene with them driving. It was obvious Arash struggled with her killing his father but soon got over it; we didn't need a long, dragged out sequence to confirm it.

The cinematography is good, although I did get the "trying too hard" vibe a few times, where the shots felt forced in a "look, this is an artsy shot, see how cool it is?" way. The nail in the coffin is the pacing, though; I feel it could have been an hour long without it hurting the message.
