When Oram shoots the creature and David goes nuts because he was communicating with it, Oram says: "David, I met the devil when I was a child and I've never forgotten him."

What devil is he talking about? What happened to him?

Never explained. I think it was a half-hearted attempt to give the character some depth. Then he dies like a fucking moron five minutes later.

I took it to mean he was abused
