Good movies can no longer be made because the average audience is too stupid

Audiences nowadays are permanent infants. They will always clamor for action and and voyeuristic appeal over depth and ambiguous storytelling. Infact, they hate ambiguity. They want to be spoon fed all the themes. Challenging their conceptions of morality is a sin.

Their idea of film analysis is analyzing surface details like "hurr hurr, stoopid scientist. Human beings can never behave in counterintutive ways, hurr durr".

It's all so tiring.

Just another proof that "Idiocracy" was a documentary.

So you're claiming this movie was just too smart for a lot of people?

Never seen that complaint made regarding this movie before.

reply

eh, IDK You can find someone who doesn’t like any movie no matter how great you think it is. I think there’s still a descent amount of good movies that come out.

I remember that feeling, I was there at one point. Any film has depth beyond all intentions, we carry that depth with us, it is our responsibility to see beyond the surface of life, not up to the outside stimuli. I would step further and appreciate to see more perspectives that reveal personal feelings towards specific areas of the film, not just themes, but aesthetics, colors, shapes, specific tones, moods, anything that is awakening something in us, our traumas, our past experiences, anything that makes us relate, sometimes people do so anyway, however unintentionally often, not for the purpose of exploring our souls through the art we observe or create, or any experience that affect us somehow. I remember growing up and gradually getting disappointed how even most artists are cynical, superficial people despite creating great depths in what they do, yet never seeing it themselves. There is no bad art to me, there's only an entirely neutral experience, to show us who we are.

Its more like executives think everyone is retarded. In reality, covenant underperformed compared to the smarter but still very flawed prometheus and alien/aliens are household titles

Americans do, yes.

AMERICANS DO YOU,HUH?...YOU ARE LUCKY TO TAKE THOSE POUNDINGS.

The audience isn't too dumb it's the writing in this movie. They turned up the 'dumb' in this one after Prometheus, which was by no means a member of Mensa itself.

You aren't giving audiences enough credit. They realised this one was a bit of a stinker and that's why it underperformed at the box office. Rightly so.

I have to agree with you here.
There's way too much bitching about stoopid crew.
Covenant has severe problems, but the problem isn't the crew members' decision-making.
Stupid or smart, that's not what ruins an Alien movie.

The problem is that they introduce a bunch of couples and characters we couldn't care for because they would die before we even bothered to try to figure out who were together.
The new Ripley/Shaw was boring. I can't even remember her name despite watching the movie 3 times.

Then again, the movie prioritized David and his development. The rest were just fillers.
And they did succeed in making David's story interesting, but it's not enough to make a great Alien movie.
