Two questions regarding Mother. Spoilers ahead!

1. Why didn't Mother warn the crew members that there was non-human life source inside the ship in the shape of those 3 alien embryos that David had inside him? I mean, especially considering Mother did suddenly warn the crew members to exactly that when there was a Xenomorph inside the ship, so why didn't she do the same regarding the xeno embryos?

2. It was stupid enough how David could fool Daniels (and Tennessee) into believing he was Walter πŸ™„ but seriously, how could he even fool the all-knowing Mother???? Like seriously.... even Mother???? It just really beggars belief that he could do that.

Were they just making it up as they went along or is there a reasonable explanation? πŸ€”

reply

Mother was turned off for diagnostic check remember

reply

Was that BEFORE or AFTER David pretending to be Walter entered the ship?

And if there is a diagnostic check, can Mother really be turned off? Doesn't make sense.

reply

So now they should make a prequel that explains the function of the ship's computer?
With all of our questions, there should be enough material to made several more movies.

reply

Sounds like a reasonable explanation.

reply

Wait a second. Those aliens can survive inside of an android?!

reply

Yeah I know! Maybe he has an incubator inside to boot! 😁

reply

Wow. That's actually amazing. I'm speechless. The story definitely went in a new direction entirely.

reply

The egg was encased so he acted like a "shelter "

reply

Wait. I'm confused now. How is that possible? Was David made that way by Weyland?

reply

David was perfecting them remember he was evolving the πŸ‘½ Aliens. So I think he made it possible to encase the embryos of the aliens so they will not burst during transport

reply

Okay wait a second.
The person I was originally talking to said that David had an egg inside of his chest. Wtf are YOU talking about?

reply

David had several eggs in him before he regurgitate them out in the final scene

reply

Right you are, but how did Mother not warn the crew about them? You said Mother had been turned off, but then how come she warned them about the xenomorph?

reply

No internal scanning would be my guess. As in I trail to the body. It's all surface scanning for muthur unless in a specific scanning device.

reply

Sure, internal scanning of human beings, but whilst Mother is scanning the whole surface of the ship, even through walls etc, surely it would automatically scan through an android, no?

Mmmmm, good guess though! I'll have to think about it further.

reply

Would depend on the level of scanning technology, whether it scans through walls etc or not. If it does scan through walls, it will scan through people and would easily detect a forgein body. In saying that though, it would still have to know what it was looking at. Like it might have thought the mass was cancer, or some other type of growth.

Of course it could just be yet another in a long line of plot holes.

reply

Well considering they are going on a very important mission to colonise a new country, you would think they would have scanning technology that would scan with great detail every inch of the ship in nanoseconds. I get your point, but in any case, even if it had detected a 'mass' inside David, that mass is 'alive', it's non-human, and what the heck anyway, how is an android going to have cancer?

Yep, I think it could be just another plot hole, yes siree.

reply

When I said cancer I meant for the Mexican guy, who had a chest buster in him. But apart from that I just don't think they had scanners that worked that way. I think all muthur had access to was cameras and what you call space sonar lol. But yeah, far too much on here that should have simple explanations in the movie require too much from the audience to do guess work. So I can only assume that since they didn't set up to show the scanners in action bar using security cameras, that muthur can't ct scan at will.

reply

Sure, I can understand if it didn't detect it in the Mexican guy, because he's human, but it would have been able to detect it in an Android, imo, considering her job was to detect if there was any non-human life forms inside the ship that could threaten their mission. Pretty rubbish if Mother can't scan at will, as she is usually 'all knowing' in sci fi films and is able to detect everything instantly. I doubt she just had access to cameras. Sonar? Yes I can believe that. But still, you would think their detecting system would be way more advanced than that.

reply

You would think, but then again this is a movie where scientists think it's fine to walk onto an alien world with at least an air purifier. I mean it's basic science 101, you don't insert a foreign organism into a delecate ecosystem. Everybody's seen war of worlds, right? πŸ˜‚ Nevermind the neomorphs, a basic virus should killed them all. Here on earth there's billions of things trying to kill us all the time, but our immune systems developed here and know how to deal with it. But there? Nope, dead as fuck lol.

reply

Maybe Mother wasn't programmed to be able to scan inside a nonliving matter like androids.

reply

How have you not seen this yet? Anyway, it wasnt eggs. It was face hugger embryos in a small egg shaped cases. Similar to how the mosquitoe looked in amber in Jurassic park. He regurgitated two of them and placed them in an incubation chamber with a bunch of human embryos. It's not what you think it is.

reply

Anyway. Back to my original point.

Wow..the writers took the plot in a new direction because never in any of the other alien movies has those face huggers been able to lay eggs inside something nonliving.

reply

SO you just completely ignored the part where I said it wasnt eggs? Or when I said its not what you think it is? Cool.

reply

Yeah actually I do try to ignore a lot of what you say now especially after you harassed me.

reply

Wow, dude. You are just a special kind of fucking troll.

reply

You really give the city Dallas a bad rep.

I would place you on ignore but I cannot allow you to bully others.

And yeah. The black goo was the Engineer's food. No life form can travel the universe without taking food with them to eat.
No the Engineers didn't use the goo to commit suicide in order to create life. They could have created life in other ways.
In Prometheus, the Engineer we see in the beginning looked very calm and serene before he opened up his little container of food to eat. The food looked frozen than it changed into goo. He drank the goo and looked generally surprised that it made him sick. We see his ship leave his dying ass there. They probably panicked at the sight of that Engineer getting sick and didn't want him back aboard.

And yeah those canisters had a refrigerant in it.
And yeah something got into their food and killed the Engineers, mutated everything else.

And yeah, David used the black goo as a biological weapon because David hated humans. I think David hated humans because they treated him like a unimportant servant, like he had no free will. But he does.
In Prometheus, Weyland even told the rest of the crew that David didn't have a soul right in front of David. You could tell what Weyland said about David not having a soul bothered David.
So David got posses off at humanity and used the black goo as a biological weapon.

reply

You can't allow me? Lol dude, you're the fucking trolling little prick calling people names when they don't agree with your ridiculous theories. And now we know why, you're a fucking attention whore. Running around threatening people like a fucking kid on a playground with a big brother πŸ˜‚ you're so pathetic.

Fuck your self. Pathetic loser.

reply

Fuck you too you stupid asshole. Embryo and eggs are the same fucking thing!!

Why don't you just stop watching science fiction since you don't know what the fuck you are looking at and are too dumb to figure out. I've seen you on here trashing Prometheus all because you think there are holes in the writing. There isn't!

And this board isn't only for those who have seen the film. This board is also for people who haven't seen the film and want to see what others thought about it.

But what do I find? You- a pseudo-intellect abusive douchebag who cannot even fathom that aliens eat food too.

reply

An embryo is an egg? πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ Well, thanks for playing, but I think we just found out that your level of dumbfuckary knows no bounds. An embryo is not an egg, you could say it's what's inside the egg, but only if it's been fertilized. An embryo is a term used in conjunction with development, i.e. Egg, embryo, fetus, baby. This of course only applies to humans, different creatures, different life cycles.

You were saying something about being pseudo intellectual?

As for no holes in the writing? Oh sweet Moses. Ok so why did the engineers create us? Why did they try to kill us? Why did they come to visit us and give us a map to a weapons installation? Why did the guy who's job it was to map the caves get lost on the way back? Why did the giant alien rip off davids head? What planet was the oringinal engineer on when he seeded the planet? Why does Ridley Scott call David a replicant? What happens when we die? How can someone of faith continue to have that faith in the face of overwhelming evidence to contrary? Why would David kill the only person that ever showed him any kind of respect? Why would David think he can control aliens? Where did he get the material to create eggs? How did he get eggs without a queen? Was there a queen? Why didn't we see or hear mention of a queen?

All that's just off the top of my head, if I actually gave it any kind of thought there would be more.

Face it, mr dickhead, you're nothing but a dumb troll with no clue what's going on outside your own dumbass ideas. And even then you have no clue. All you can do is report me because you have no fucking argument. You're a waste of my fucking time.

reply

Terrygg, what? You haven't even seen the film???

I thought you were being ironic when I replied to your comment. lol.

reply

No I haven't seen the film yet. But I have been avoiding massive spoilers though.

reply

No you havent.

reply

Yes I have.

reply

No you haven't, you've already talked about all the spoilers. Why are you lying about this? What could possibly be the point?

reply

I think describing what happens in each sequence are massive spoilers, like a poster did in another thread.

reply

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

reply

I think he just swallowed them to smuggle them onboard, they did not germinate in him. They were not feeding off him, they were still in stasis.
like smuggling drugs into prison inside a condom and then swallowing it.

reply

Yes I get that part. Damn what I am saying is that all this time they made it seem as if the Alien eggs could only survive inside a living host. Gosh. What is so hard to understand unless you WANT to spoil every detail of the film.

reply

They can only grow and hatch in a living host. David wasn't human so they didn't grow in him.
But they can survive dormant anywhere for a long time, waiting for an animal host. (human, engineer, or any animal species with enough blood supply would work I think)
David swallowing them was no different than carrying them in a box, they can sense it is not an animal so they don't flip the switch to start the growing and hatching process.

reply

Wow what a cool species. Thanks.

reply

Good point ... and why wouldn't mother not have some way to verify or authenticate the android? Mother should have known that David was not Walter. Mother was stupid, which is why have mother and not just multiple androids to run the ship?

reply

Exactly!!!! Of course Mother should have been able to verify or authenticate the android? Her mission was to ensure the colonisers got safely to the 'new world', and she was pretty adamant that they couldn't get the ship near the storm earlier on and it took two lines of command do override Mother's authority, so it makes no sense that suddenly an unknown android from a different version to Walter can just enter the ship and even take over just like that. Mother was indeed stupid, or rather scriptwriters. Or they take us for stupid more like it.

reply

Someone programmed mother so obviously the programmer wasn't worried about there being more than one android on the ship being a danger to the crew.

Btw those screenwriters are probably smarter than you.

reply

Before you start slagging other people of(who are clearly far more intelligent than you), remember your dumb ass thinks black goo is food and that it got spoiled which is why theres aliens running around. Or the fact you cant read when at least 2 people told you it wasnt an egg laid in david, yet your persist.

reply

Before you start harassing me again just know that I will be contacting Jim directly about this.

reply

About you being a fucking troll piece of shit? Go right ahead. Go cry fucking child to daddy because you can't take being called on your bullshit. Get me banned for calling you dumb fuck if you like, it won't change the fact you're dumb fuck troll.

reply

Actually you're trolling more than I am. I've complemented this film and Prometheus more than you have. On this board, I am reading about what others thought of the movie as well as reading threads that give me a perspective about the type of posters who watch movies. All I see you doing is pretending to be an intellectual just because you saw a movie (big deal) and then targeting anyone that you seem to be dumber than you (as if that were ever possible). Next you mock and insult that person even when you're in the wrong as well.

So what makes me a troll? Hint: trolling is not when you have to overreact to everything that I write. Lol

reply

Oh my, why do you get personal with posters? πŸ™„

Well here I'll give you a bit of your own medicine, THICKO.

You claimed this, right?:

Well please explain the following extended opening clip to Prometheus (you can skip to minute 3:00, thanks):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHUhjTo16i8&list=PLeQh5aim4jTu0pXM550_M0XlB5b6yiAVB

Who's the stupid one now???

Don't bother acting like a smart arse getting into arguments when it's clear you didn't even GET Prometheus and you haven't even SEEN Covenant, because it makes you look like a right THICKO.

reply

Whatever Cornelia. What's with all this tit for tat (I'm gonna give you some of your own medicine)?
Grow up. You have no right to call someone else stupid especially the screenwiters. That's what I have been trying to tell you.
Scenes are DELETED for a reason. And extended movies that feature DELETED scenes are gimmicks to get your money. Deleted means that it isn't part of the film that was released. I thought everyone knew that

reply

Ha ha, you're telling me to grow up? Seriously?

Did you see the clip? The Engineer who drank the black goo knew he was sacrificing himself in order to create life. Admit you were wrong like any grown up would. Go on.

reply

Stop showing stupid sliced videos. And it doesn't prove the bullshit that you told me.

reply

You were saying something about not being a troll and calling people names?

reply

Dallas, some people just can't admit when they are wrong, hey? Oh well, we should be glad we don't have their brains, or lack of, rather. It's like talking to a brick wall, so there really is no point engaging with their stupid banter.

reply

I can't imagine what it must be like to be that dumb and that arrogant in one package. I think he thinks he can't get away with it because he knows the site owner(he implies it anyway). Ive seen him being abusive to a few people now because they should him up for his stupid theories. I gave it back to him, and he reported me for it twice now. claims I'm "harassing him" πŸ˜‚. So watch out, you'll be getting a knock from his mod buddies soon telling you to stop harassing him πŸ˜‚.

reply

Oh I'm sooo scared.....πŸ™„ I just won't interact with him anymore, because he's not worth it.

reply

Yeah, I should do the same but somehow he just keeps getting more dumb. I just can't help myself lol.

reply

I personally thought it was definitely a missed opportunity: 1.) To not use MUTHUR more than a non-descript computer voice, just telling the crew standard data. What was great about "Alien" was that MUTHUR was simply following programmed orders, but the audience was challenged about whether they thought the computer was malicious, or even HAL 9000-like evil/psychotic/whatever. 2.) I personally don't think MUTHUR sounded like the original MUTHUR. I think they could've Autotuned this actress' voice or something to get it closer. As someone who is fascinated at the prospect of Artificial Intelligence, in both real life and in the movies, I was disappointed, especially when this sounded like something very cool to be in the movie.

reply

Ha! I call her 'mother' because I think that's what the crews have always called her in the original Alien films.

I agree with you about the challenge to the audience where 'mother' was malicious or not. I guess when it was given the new order that 'all crew are expendable' well then the audience was left with no doubts that 'mother' cannot be trusted and can indeed be malicious, if only just to carry out it's duty.

In Covenant, their mission was to colonise a new planet and to let nothing jeopardise it. In no way would Mother have been stupid enough to not have noticed a different kind of android trying to get command of the ship, etc.

As to her voice, I didn't really pay attention to that. But yeah for sure, for the original Alien fans who pay attention to details, they should have tried to keep the original voice of MUTHUR, or as near to it as possible.

reply

You would think they would have checked to make sure it wasn't david. A bar code or an emergency off switch. That was very B movie how Daniels waited until the last second to check

reply

I know!!!
