According to the laws of Vampirism Derek could not have been a vampire. A stake through the heart KILLS vampires and he also had a reflection...does anybody know why?

You see loads of different "types" of vampires in all sorts of movies, books, etc. There are no laws that are set in stone, so the filmmakers can do whatever they want.
It's a mythology, which means there are variations. A creator can create any set of rules as long as there's consistency.
In Polidori's The Vampyre (written in 1819), Ruthven could tolerate sunlight and travel by day, but kills at night. He goes on a killing spree at night in Greece, for instance.
In Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula could tolerate weak sunlight and walk around in daylight, and he kills any time.
In some films, a vampire can't tolerate sunlight and only travel at night.
it's not like so called laws of vampirism apply to every film, in lame crap like Vampire Diaries they can walk during the daylight, in any case they can do with them laws as they please, it's not like it's a fact, just made up crap to entertain people
